Introduction: Make a Copper and Veneer Ring

About: Love to build

Today I will be showing you how I made my very own ring out of a copper pipe and veneer. This is a very simple instructable and can be done by almost anyone. It requires little tools as well, I just used more powerful ones to get the job done faster.

Step 1: Cut Copper

To start this off you need to get a piece of copper pipe that fits snugly on your finger. Then take this pipe and cut it to a piece about 3/4 of an inch long. It is important to make it bigger for you can always sand it down later. To cut the pipe I used a portable metal band saw, but you could use a angle grinder or a hack saw. Once you have cut the pipe, use some sandpaper to sand the ends smooth.

Step 2: Veneer and Gluing

Now take some veneer and wood glue. Roll the veneer into a pipe shape, and add wood glue as you go. Add tape around to make sure it stays. Now unravel the tape and veneer to show the roll you created. Take some strong glue (I used super glue) and smear it around the copper pipe. Then take your veneer and add it around it. Cut off any excess.

Step 3: Sanding

Next you are going to need to sand. I used a belt sander to do the trick, and remove material quickly, but you could easily use regular sandpaper. I removed enough material until it was a good fit on my finger. I then took some high grit sandpaper, and sanded the veneer on the ring to make it nice and smooth.

Step 4: Finishing

I then took a dark stain and added that to the veneer on the ring. This gave it a nice finish and made it look even better. I then took some clear lacquer and put a few coats of that on the ring, just to give it that extra shiny look. Once you let this dry you are done. You just created a wonderful ring, for a very little price. This is a great gift for anyone or just something for you to wear yourself.
