INTRO:

for my first Instructable as part of the backyard project contest (be sure to go vote) I will be going over how to repurpose the boards from an old deck into a brand new beautiful deck.

Supplies

SUPPLIES:

old deck boards from an existing deck.

a power drill, preferably an impact drill. Dewalt is great.

1-4 buckets of rainproof screws preferably star bits.

new wood-stain. darker colors cover the bad spots.

a disc sander with plenty of extra disks.

and a miter saw.

Step 1: STEP ONE: REMOVE ALL BOARDS

start by taking your drill and removing all boards. this may take a while but try to salvage all boards. do not take a hammer or pry-bar to any board unless absolutely necessary. once all boards are removed set aside in a large pile. save all boards that are not rotten or to small to bridge the gap.

Step 2: STEP TWO: SAND ALL BOARDS

start by sanding the side that was originally down, then move on to all other sides except for the one that was originally up. once boards are sanded set out in a different stack.

Step 3: STEP THREE: STAIN BOARDS

after the sanding is complete, take the salvageable boards and chop off ends. once the ends have been cut off take the boards and apply the first layer of stain and set to dry. once the boards are completely done take the boards and add a second layer of stain. set to dry.

Step 4: STEP FOUR: ADD ANY NEW FRAMING NEEDED

for this step I used standard 12 foot long 2 by 6 boards. I built the frames and then set all posts and leveled it. once level dig 1 foot deep holes under any post and set in concrete. once the concrete is dry move on to the next step.
