Introduction: Renewing Broken Headphones

About: Aspiring product/package designer trying to improve her band. She loves to play the drums but wishes she had better recording equipment... oh, and more cowbell.

Ever had a pair of headpones/earbuds that has a faulty adaptor, or busted speakers?

Today I'm going to show you how to renew broken headphones/earbuds into new usable headphones/earbuds.
(I am going to call them "head/buds" from now on, so follow along)

Step 1: Materials and Tools

Materials:
Multiple pairs of broken head/buds
Solder
Heat-shrink tubing or electrical tape.

Tools:
Soldering iron/gun
Lighter (if necessary)

Step 2: Choose Your Head/buds

Find multiple pairs of head/buds... try to find one with good speakers and one with a good adaptor.

If you find them in the street make sure they are clean.

Step 3: Cutting

Cut the head/buds in half (unless you want a longer (or shorter) custom pair of head/buds).

If they have one of those control/microphone things, make sure you leave it on (unless of course, you don't want it).

Step 4: Soldering

Solder the wires together.

If you don't know how to solder, you can visit:

or, a more instructables friendly version,

Step 5: Wrapping

You can go all fancy-like and use shrink wrap tubing to cover your exposed wires, or you can just wrap them with electrical tape.

Step 6: Finished!

Now you're finished!
