In this Instructable, I will show you how to make a paper monster that's simple to make. After looking at several Instructables, I learned that this wouldn't be origami unless it used only paper. It's not a definite name, but I gave the name "Sand Striker" from the way it looked like a crab. Hope you enjoy making this!

Step 1: Materials

You will need the following materials:
- 7 square (origami) pieces of paper
- A paperclip clamp
- A rubber band (a thin one works best)

Step 2: Making the Body Units

For this step you will need four pieces of paper. Note that most folds are done symmetrically, and look at the pictures for reference. The first pictures in steps 2-4 will be referred as Pic. 0 (the finished pieces).

*Pic. 1-5: Make a diagonal fold, then fold the side corners along the diagonal to create a kite base. The paper should look like a kite. Take the side corners again and fold them along the diagonal fold to create a diamond base.

*Pic. 6-9: With the previous folds, fold the side corners along them and refold. This will create the spaces the will hold the body units together. Crease the folds to keep them sturdy.

*Pic. 10-12: Taking the top corner, fold the diamond base in half, tucking the half under the side flaps.

*Pic. 13-16: Hold the paper with bottom tip facing you. Folds the top corners along the center, then flip the paper over. From that side, fold the corners along the center.

*Pic. 17-19: Fold and unfold the bottom corner as shown. With the remaining three pieces of paper repeat all the steps.

Step 3: Making the Arms

For this step you will need two pieces of paper. Remember that most folds are done on both sides. You can chose to make either two arms with "fists", "claws", or one of each (see Intro).

*Pic. 1-5: Start off by making a diamond base.

*Pic. 6-12: Fold the top and bottom tips to the point shown in pic. 7. Fold it in half horizontally and make an inside reverse fold along the edge shown in pic. 12.

*Pic. 13-21: Make a fold along the shown points in pic. 13. It helps to imagine a line between them when folding. From the flaps made from the earlier reverse fold, make a fold parallel to the bottom edge of the reverse fold. Leave the fold incomplete to create the shape of a "fist". Under those folds, do an inside reverse fold.

*Pic. 22-28: Take the paper and lay it out flat. Fold it vertically in half and unfold. This will create a curve on the arms. After refolding the arm, make an inside reverse fold on the shown tip in pic. Unfold the fold keeping the tip in place.

*Pic. 29-31: You now have an arm. Make another one with the other piece of paper. If you want to make a "claw", pull out the fold keeping the tip in place where the "fist" is at (see pic. 30). Use the previous folds to shape out the "claw".

Step 4: Making the Legs

For this step you will need one piece of paper. Refer to the pictures in this part, since at some points it can be hard to explain.

*Pic. 1-5: Start off by making a diamond base, but make each side of the folds go in opposite directions (see pic. 3, 5)

*Pic. 6-12: Fold the paper in half as shown. Now make an outside reverse on both ends. First fold the ends along the center to make the lines for the fold, then fold along those lines.

*Pic. 13-16: Fold the outside reverse folds in a way that they point forward. This fold doesn't have to be folded completely.

*Pic. 17-21: On the tips do an inside reverse fold, then another one to create the feet. Fold the flaps as shown in the last pictures, and then you have finished making all the parts.

Step 5: Some Assembly Required. Pt. 1

Now that you have all the pieces, let's start off with making the body.

*Pic. 1-9: Start off with sliding each body unit into the spaces. Have the units bend outward (see pic. 2) as you put them together. As you put each unit, hold the pointed tips together with you fingers. Hold all the tips together for a couple of seconds after putting all the units together.

*Pic. 10-11: For the next steps, you have to keep the tips together or the units will fall out. Use the paper clip clamp to solve that problem, and remove it when everything is put together.

Step 6: Some Assembly Required. Pt. 2

Now that the body is assembled, it's time to place the other parts together. Remember to look at the photos for reference.

*Pic. 1-3: With the legs, wedge the top portion of it in the space made by the last two units (see pic. 1-3).

*Pic. 4-12: Use the rubber band to keep everything together. See the pictures to get a clear idea on how to put it on Make several crosses as shown for better stability on the model. If the rubber band is slightly longer, make a loop or two as shown in pic. 12

*Pic. 13: Just a side note. At some points while assembling, the edges from the last body unit tends to slip off occasionally. Just slide it back and press on the folds a little to fix it.

Step 7: Some Assembly Required. Pt. 3

You're almost done! Now it's time to place in the arms. For this Instructable I am using both a "claw" and a "fist".

*Pic. 1-4: Find the space shown in pic 1. Slide in the tip of the arm from either side until you see the tip from the other end. This can be tricky, but just open up the space to make it easier.

*Pic. 5-8: Although the tab is pressed down, a small gap is present in the first arm. This is where you will slide in the second tip of the arm. Carefully pry open up the space and slide it in, or just slide it over the first tab if you can't.

Step 8: Finished

You now have a paper monster to display or share with. If you tried to have it stand and it fell , try to adjust the legs and the arms. Keeping the arms forward will keep it from falling back. Feel free to comment, and subscribe in the future!
