Introduction: Simulation of Tapered Beam

This project is developed with the help of autodesk fusion 360.

I have used model and simulation work space of fusion 360.

I have used a tapered beam in this simulation.

I have used steel material for the beam.

I have analysed the stress , reaction force, displacement, safety factor, strain in this simulation.

I have fixed the smaller end of rod.

I have provided the 100 N force on the larger end of tapered beam.

Step 1: Sketch of Smaller Circle

In this step I am in the model work space of fusion 360.

Then i have drawn a circle on the right side plane.

Then I have construct the offset plane at a distance of 100 mm from the

drawn circle.

Step 2: Sketch of Larger Circle

In this step I am in the model work space of fusion 360.

Then I have drawn a circle on the offset plane created in the previous step.

The second circle drawn is made larger than the previous circle.

Step 3: Loft Between Two Profiles of Circles

In this step I am in the model work space of fusion 360.

Then i have used loft operation between the two circle profiles drawn

in previous steps.

As a result I have got the structure ,as shown in the picture.

Step 4: Force of 100 N Applied on Larger Circle and Smaller Circle Is Fixed.

In this step I am in the simulation work space of fusion 360.

Then I have applied 100 N force on the larger end.

The nature of force is tensile.

The smaller end of the tapered steel bar is fixed with respect to space.

Step 5: Stress Simulation

In this step I am in the simulation work space of fusion 360.

Then I have provided the results of stress simulation on the steel body.

The blue color shows minimum stress.

The red color shows maximum stress.

We can see the maximum stress obtained on the periphery of the smaller end.

The value of maximum stress is .04179 M Pa.

The value of minimum stress is .005843 M Pa.

Step 6: Displacement Simulation

In this step I am in the simulation work space of fusion 360.

Then I have provided simulation of displacement on the steel bar.

The blue color shows minimum displacement.

The red color shows maximum displacement.

We can see that maximum displacement is around the periphery of the larger end.

We can also see that the smaller end face ,which is fixed with respect to space,

has not displaced at all.

Hence the smaller end face is dark blue.

The value of maximum displacement is 1.38 E -05 mm.

The value of minimum value of displacement is 0 mm.

Step 7: Reaction Force Simulation

In this step I am in the simulation work space of fusion 360.

Then I have provided the simulation of the reaction force produced , as

a result of 100 N force tensile force provided on the larger end.

The minimum value of reaction force is displayed in blue color.

The maximum value of reaction force is displaced in red color.

The maximum value of reaction force is 5.264 N .

The minimum value of reaction force is 0 N.

Step 8: Strain Simulation.

In this step I am in the simulation work space of fusion 360.

Then I have provided the simulation result of strain produced.

The blue color shows minimum value of strain.

The red color shows maximum value of strain.

The maximum value of strain is 2.589 E -07.

The minimum value of strain is 3.067 E -08.

As strain is the ratio of two lengths hence , it has no units.

Step 9: Safety Factor Simulation

In this step I am in the simulation work space of fusion 360.

Then I have provided the simulation results of , safety of factor on the

tapered bar.

Factor of safety is the ratio of maximum load and safe load.

In this case maximum factor of safety taken is 15.

In this case minimum factor of safety is also 15.
