"You can't lose creativity, but you can lose inspiration." And who of the creative Intructables members haven't had this experience. At one moment you have a creative boom and the ideas are rushing through your brain like on a highway, but some time you have no idea what to do. You might be a musician, an artist, an engineer or just the person who likes to be creative in your free time. But the problem we share is the same: A lack of inspiration.

So what do we do in such a situation? Do you search for random projects on Instructables.com? Do you listen to random music? You start reading a book? Do you go on a walk? The options are unlimited, every person has a different way to handle a creative depression. The idea all the opportunities have in common is, to get inspired by something. But what happens when you get stuck?

So I decided to make "The Source of Inspiration". The main idea is simple, you just take a bowl and throw all ideas, quotes, tasks, etc. written on several pieces of paper in it. You can write anything down, you think would be cool to do someday. Or just make some tasks up. Or you can use the container as a pool for your ideas. Maybe you heard some cool quotes? Write them down and throw them in.

But just using a bowl wouldn't be worth to call it a "Source of Inspiration". So I decided to make a vinyl record bowl, cut it into half and stick it to an ukulele body. Then I added some drips (a Instructables sticker) and et voilà the bowl has even recieved a decorative and creative look.

"Kreativität kann man nicht verlieren, nur die Inspiration." Wer von den kreativen Instructables Mitgliedern hat nicht schon mal genau diese Erfahrung gemacht. In einem Moment hat man einen kreativen Schub und die Ideen rasen nur so auf einen zu, als wäre man auf einer Autobahn, aber zu einer anderen Zeit hat man keine Ahnung, was man machen könnte. Egal ob du Musiker, Künstler, Ingenieur oder einfach nur ein kreativer Hobbybastler bist. Das Problem ist allen gemein: Die fehlende Inspiration.

Also was macht man in so einer Situation? Suchst du nach zufälligen Projekten auf Instructables.com? Hörst du dir irgendeine Musik an? Lest du vielleicht ein Buch oder gehst Spazieren? Die Möglichkeiten sind unbegrenzt. Jeder versucht auf seine Weise einen Ausweg aus dem kreativen Abschwung zu finden. Aber was machst du, wenn du nicht mehr weiter weißt?

Also habe ich mich dazu entschieden "Die Quelle der Inspiration" ins Leben zu rufen. Die Grundidee ist einfach. Im Prinzip kann man einfach eine Schüssel nehmen und diese mit niedergeschriebenen Ideen, Aufgaben, Zitaten, etc. füllen. Dabei gibt es keine Grenzen. Man kann Projekte aufschreiben, die man schon immer machen wollte, oder irgendwelche Aufgaben erfinden. Die Schüssel kann auch zum Ideenpool werden.

Aber einfach eine Schüssel zu füllen und diese als Inspirationsquelle zu betiteln, wäre ziemlich einfallslos. Also habe ich eine Vinylschüssel gemacht, diese halbiert und eine Hälfte auf eine Ukulele geklebt. Zusätzlich habe ich das Gebilde noch mit gemalten Wassertropfen (und einem Instructables Sticker) verziert und aus der einfachen Schüssel wurde ein sehenswerte und dekorative "Quelle der Inspiration".

Step 1: Get Your Materials

What you need:

- a ukulele (colour or size depends on your preference), I bought a cheap decorative model.
- a old vinyl record (I recommend, buying more than one, if your not already have some at home, because you might not be happy with the first try)
- a oven safe glass bowl roughly in the size of the ukulele body
- acrylic paint (any colour you like)
- some pieces of square-shaped notice paper
- a paintbrush
- a plastic cup
- a Instructables sticker (optional)
- a baking sheet
- a hot glue gun (or any glue you have laying around)
- a soldering iron
- a good hairdryer (optional)

Du brauchst:

- Ukulele (Farbe und Größe sind abhängig von deinem Geschmack), Ich hab eine billige Deko-Ukulele gekauft
- alte Schallplatte (Kauf sicherheitshalber mehr als eine, wenn du nicht schon welche besitzt, weil du nicht unbedingt zufrieden sein wirst mit dem ersten Versuch.)
- ofensichere Glassschüssel in der Größe des Ukulele Körpers
- Acrylfarbe (egal welche Farbe)
- einige Notizzettel
- Pinsel
- Plastikbecher
- Instructables Sticker (optional)
- ein Backblech
- Heißklebepistole (oder ein anderer Kleber)
- Lötkolben
- ein guter Föhn (optional)

Step 2: Make a Vinyl Record Bowl

Preheat the oven for about 200 degrees Celsius. Put a baking sheet in the oven and place your oven safe glass bowl on it. Also put the vinyl record on the glass bowl. Now watch the magic!

After a short while the vinyl record starts to melt as shown in the pictures. To shape it put a pair of heat safe gloves on and press your fist down at the center of the vinyl record. Take the vinyl record with the glass bowl out of the oven and form it as you like to have it. The vinyl record bowl has to cool down for some minutes. Vorheizen des Ofens auf ungefähr 200°C. Schiebe ein Backblech in den Ofen und platziere die ofensichere Glassschüssel darauf. Auf die Glassschüssel kommt die Schallplatte.

Kurze Zeit später sollte die Vinylplatte anfangen zu schmelzen. Jetzt kann sie geformt werden. Dazu drückt man mit feuerfesten Handschuhen die Mitte der Schallplatte auf den Boden der Glassschüssel. Um die Schallplatte in die endgültige Form zu bringen wird die Glassschüssel mitsamt der verbogenen Vinyl-Schallplatte aus dem Ofen genommen und in die gewollte Form gebogen. Step 3: Cut the Vinyl Record Bowl

The next step is to cut the vinyl bowl in half. This can be done with a soldering iron. You might not get two perfect halves, but try two be as precise as possible. If your not happy with the result, because it doesn't fit perfect to the ukulele surface, take a hairdryer, switch it on the highest temperature and melt the specific parts, to mold it again. Also postprocessing with the soldering bolt is possible.

Der nächste Schritt ist die Vinylschüssel in zwei Hälften zu schneiden. Dazu braucht man einen Lötkolben. Dabei sollte man so präzise wie möglich sein, auch wenn garantiert keine perfekten Hälften herauskommen. Wenn du mit dem Ergebnis nicht zufrieden bist, weil die Halbschüssel nicht perfekt auf die Ukulelenoberfläche passt, kannst du die fehlerhaften Stellen mit einem auf die höchste Stufe gestellten Föhn weicher machen, um diese in die richtige Form zu bringen. Auch mit dem Lötkolben kann nachgeholfen werden.

Step 4: Glue the Vinyl Record Bowl to the Ukulele

Place the vinyl half bowl onto the ukulele body and try to find the best looking position. Spread some hot glue on the cut edge of the vinyl bowl and press it on the ukulele body. Hold the light pressure until the hot glue is dry.

Platziere die halbe Vinylschüssel auf den Ukulele Körper, um die richtige Position zu finden. Verteile den Heißkleber gleichmäßig, aber schnell, auf der Schnittkante der Vinylhalbschüssel und drücke diese auf den Ukulele-Body. Halte diesen leichten Druck, bis der Kleber trocken ist.

Step 5: Paint Some Drips

Mix some acrylic paint with a tiny amount of water to make it more fluid. I choose to use a white colour, because of the nice contrast to the black ukulele and the black vinyl record bowl. To make some cool drips, take some of the diluted acrylic paint and let it drip from the edge of the bowl. I recommend this technique, because it looks more realistic. Let the colour dry overnight.

You can decorate the body of the ukulele with an Instructables sticker or any sticker you prefer.

Mische etwas Acrylfarbe mit ganz wenig Wasser, um die Farbe dünnflüssiger zu machen. Ich habe mich für weiße Farbe entschieden, wegen dem schönen Kontrast zur schwarzen Ukulele und Vinylhalbschüssel. Um solche coolen Tropfen hinzubekommen, nimm etwas von der verdünnten Farbe auf den Pinsel und lasse diese von der Kante der Schüssel runterfließen. So bekommt man realistische Wasserspuren. Lass die Farbe über Nacht trocknen.

Du kannst den Körper der Ukulele mit einem Instructables Sticker oder einem Sticker deiner Wahl verzieren.

Step 6: Bring the Source on Stream

Some last steps need to be done, before we can use or present your personal "Source of Inspiration"

As we want to hang it onto the wall, we have to drill a hole in the headstock. You can also use a wall mount or place it on a ukulele stand.

But the most important step is still missing. To create a real "Source of Inspiration" for the user, we have to fill it up with ideas, tasks, quotes, etc. The possibilities are infinite. It just depends on what kind of person you are or the presentee. If the "Source of Inspiration" is for a musician, the tasks could suggest to make songs on different random topics. Have a look at the 2nd picture for ideas.

If you collected enough ideas, screw the pieces of notice paper up and throw them into the vinyl bowl. Your "Source of Inspiration" is ready to use.

Ein paar Schritte müssen noch gemacht werden, bevor wir unsere Inspirationsquelle benutzen oder jemandem schenken können.

Wenn wir es an die Wand hängen wollen, müssen wir ein Loch in die Kopfplatte bohren. Man kann aber auch eine Wandhalterung oder einen Gitarrenständer benutzen.

Aber der wichtigste Schritt fehlt noch. Um eine echte "Quelle der Inspiration" zu machen, müssen wir sie erst mit niedergeschriebenen Ideen, Aufgaben, Zitaten, etc. füllen. Dabei sind keine Grenzen gesetzt. Es ist nur abhängig davon, wer du oder der Beschenkte ist. Wenn die Inspirationsquelle für einen Musiker sein soll, dann könnte man Aufgaben aufschreiben, die das Songwriting zu verschiedenen Themen vorschlagen. Schau mal aufs zweite Bild zur Inspiration.

Wenn du genügend Ideen gesammelt hast, zerknüll die Papiere und schmeiß sie in die Vinylhalbschüssel. Deine "Quelle der Inspiration" ist fertig für den Gebrauch.

Step 7: Conclusion

The basic idea of this project is simple. Just take an item that symbolizes your creative work. So this can be as used in the example a ukulele for a musician. It could also be a picture of your favourite artist painted on a piece of wood. Just be creative. The second major step is to stick a bowl or something similar onto it. So you can collect your inspirations written on some pieces of paper. You could even adapt a real spring.
