Introduction: The Unforgettable

The Unforgettable is a board that reminds you to bring your essentials with you. Also by using The Unforgettable you keep all your important stuff in one place.

People are very forgetful and this will help remind them to take all they need with them before they leave the house.

By calibrating the combined weight of the items you place on top, the lights will remind you of the things you need to take with you and to place them back at the end of the day.

Concept and prototype were made by Bradley, Shaydiah en Jervian.

Step 1: Step 1: Come Up With the Concept

Lucky you! We already came up with one.

Step 2: Step 2: Gather the Materials and Tools

For this project we used:

  • 1x Arduino
  • 1x Pressure sensor
  • 4x Led
  • 2x Breadboard
  • 5x Resistors
  • breadboard wires
  • a (preferably) wooden plate
  • some Styrofoam
  • a couple of paperclips

Step 3: Step 3: Start With Connecting the Arduino and Adding the Code

Oke the first thing to do is to attach the 5v and the Gnd to the breadboard.

Next up you connect the Pressure Sensor with Jumper cables and connect one of them to 5v on the breadboard. The other Jumper cable connects with a resistor to Gnd and also to a Analog pin on the Arduino itself.

(Use this link as reference for connecting the pressure sensor)

After that you connect a couple of Leds to different Digital (pmw) pins on the Arduino. Make sure the Leds have the right resistors.

When your circuit is ready you can add the .ino file to your arduino.

Step 4: Step 4: Assemble All the Components

put the pressure sensor on top of the styrofoam and carve a hole so that the jumper cables dont stick out.

As seen in the concept sketch you need to have a flat surface that goes on top of the pressure sensor. Beneath this surface you need to have a small item sticking out that will directly hit the pressure sensor (you can use something like a pencil point). When you have such an item tape that underneath the surface.

This small item will help the sensor with detecting pressure.

Also I stuck some paperclips in the styrofoam to stop the wooden surface from sliding away.

Step 5: Step 5: Callibrate the Unforgettable With Your Precious Items

First of choose which items you want to use on top of your Unforgettable.

Now that you have these items you can start callibrating.

Place all your items on top of the Unforgettable and open up your serial monitor in the Arduino IDE. The number that is showing on the monitor is the combined pressure that your items have on the sensor.

So now you can choose a number that is just above the combined pressure of your items.

My items give a pressure of 86/87, so I choose 90 to make the Unforgettable work.

Step 6: Step 6: Put It to the Test!

If either my phone or keys (or both) are missing from the plate, then the lights should go on. If all items are on the plate then the lights should go off.

As displayed in the video, the device is working!

The Unforgettable works!
