Introduction: Wood Burning for Ages 10 and Up
Here's an easy wood project for anyone ages 10 and up.
I made this when I was only 12 so imagine what you could do. They're fun to make and are great gifts too. They're also fun crafts to make in your spare time.
Step 1: Printing Your Image
Find or draw a picture of what you want to wood burn. Coloring pages are a good source of pictures.
Step 2: Finding Wood
When you are finding wood if your picture has a lot of white choose a wood that is a lighter color as opposed to a dark wood.
Step 3: Finding the Right Bit
Find a bit that is a suitable size for the picture you have chosen. For example, if there are a lot of small designs in your picture you will need to use a small, pointy bit.
Step 4: Safety Gear
Make sure you have suitable safety gear. Goggles to protect your eyes, gloves to protect your hands, and a breathing mask to protect your lungs should all be worn.
Step 5: Heating Up Wood Burner
Turn on Dremel wood burner and make sure there are no flammable objects near by. Wait until the bit heats up.
Step 6: Attaching Image to Wood
While your Dremel wood burner is heating up tape or glue the picture you have chosen on to your wood.
Step 7: Get Started
Go over the lines and dark spots with your Dremel wood burner while applying minimal pressure.
Step 8: Finishing
After you have completed burning the image, peel paper off wood. If you used glue you might need to daub the paper with a damp cloth in order to remove it from the wood.
