So recently my brother started getting into the whole straight razor vibe, and since Christmas is coming up i decided to try my hand at making him one. Anyways hope you like it, and sorry there aren't as many pictures as I'd like but i got kinda carried away while i was making it.

Step 1: Materials/ Tools

Materials

-Old straight razor

-Small nail/ pin

-Wood (slightly larger than the handle of the original razor)

-Polyurethane

Tools

-Scroll-saw/ Band-saw

-Drill/ drill press

-Sander/ sand paper

Step 2: Disassemble

Take apart the old razor, by removing the small pin. You can do this by either using a grinder or drill to remove the head. or simply cut it of with wire cutters if able.

Step 3: Shaping

Once you removed the handle from the blade, trace it onto the wood you have selected (in my case i used ebony). Then once you have the general shape begin sanding the edges and refining it. You will want to get the shape fully formed before the next step as it will become fragile and hard to work with. Once you finished getting your desired shape make where your pin hole will be by matching up the original handle up to your new one. Then drill a hole only slightly smaller than your new pin or nail, but make sure it is not larger than the head.

The next part is the most difficult but most important to getting your handle right. Make a mark right down the center of your new handle just longer than your blade will be when folded. Once you have your mark set up your guide on your band-saw or scroll-saw so that you can cut a perfectly straight line. I actually couldn't find mine so i clamped a straight piece of wood to my band-saw and used it as a guide.

Step 4: Finishing

Once you finish everything on the handle use a piece of cloth to coat it in polyurethane, then wait for it to dry (it can take longer depending on the type of wood).

After the handle has dried, line up the hole in the razor to the hole in the handle. Then stick your nail or pin in it. Next, cut the extra nail off as close to the handle as you can. then take your hammer and hammer the tip till it starts to flare out in order to hold the handle and blade together.
