this is a lego usp .45 from call of duty. yes it does shoot, though you have to pull back the part for cocking it to shoot.

you should be extremely gentle when you put the handle onto the rest to the gun

Acually, they are of you get good at it, check out some if my stuff or ajking's stuff or even delta-13's scar-H, if you get gooy at it, it can be really nice looking!!!!

Good job with the rubber bands for the trigger mechanism; I actually recently built a similar LEGO pistol (only Star Wars related) which also used rubber bands and Technic parts in order to fire!
