Introduction: Man's World Laptop Stand Made of Scaffolding Elements
As I lay often in bed and still like to work with my laptop, I realized that my HP desktop replacement notebook is not built to rest on your upper legs. Also it doesn't like to stay on fabric surfaces due to its thermal output. And additionally, it's a heavy weight champion, not easy to handle.
Ok. The man's world laptop needs a man's world laptop stand.
Here we go.
I had the chance to get some scaffolding elements, which you can see in the second picture. Also I bought some aluminium tubings, 3ft / 1m each. One of the 3ft / 1m parts was cut down to 10in / 25cm pieces for the smaller connections.
Tools needed: Allen wrench, Steel saw, rubber-headed mallet, brain
For the shelf space I used a spare part of glued wood, countersunk bolts and self-locking nuts.
How it is assembled you can see in the photos. I think they are self-explanatory.
This has been a fun and really fast to realize project. Totally adjustable for any further purpose and reusable in any part.
Improvement:
After using the stand for a couple of days I have to face that the fittings leave a small gap to the aluminium tubes I used. Because of the heavy weight of the laptop, the wide boom and the resulting force to angle of the T-element (item# 8) it didn't move as smooth as I wanted it, and the boom was hanging down a little.
As you can see in the last pictures, I cutted up a bottle made of HDPE and used the gathered material as a bearing. Works fine and smooth, also the boom doesn't hang down so much.
