    Artnet LED Pixels With ESP8266

I finally got around to adding a single strip of the WS8212s for some Christmas lights outside!I did notice the bug and though it's not a fix, i was able to run it for a few hours with no trouble the other night.I noticed that if i changed the FX channel every 20 min or so, it seemed to run just fine throught the night. I am going to try and program a scene in Freestyler to sycle the FX channel on it's own so i don't have to babysit it.Otherwise, works great!

many encoders?Would this example, Common Bus Encoders work with your code?https://github.com/j-bellavance/CommonBusEncoders/blob/master/tutorial/tutorial.pdf

gotcha, same example, but just wire it for buttons and external pull ups, coolNow, what about using the shift button to change the modes of a set of buttons on one of the multiplex chips? can this button also be part of one of the multiplexers, or does it need to be a discreet into the Arduino or Teensy?

Great project BTW.Checking the latest code...looking at the Analog Multiplexer example, I assume it would not be difficult to do a Digital Multiplex version, so that I may use many buttons via multiplexing. I looked at MIDI_Controller.h and I could see where it goes over AnalogMultiplex, but I did not see any mention of Digital Multiplex or maybe Button Multiplex.Bank selecting..I did not see, but also assume it would not be difficult to use a button or two to change the modes of several buttons connected via multiplex?Any assistance would be apprechiated.thanks

Yes2 things.1st I needed to change in the code, what type of encoder, like jog wheel. Twos compliment, for example.2nd was the Mixxx software I was trying to map the encoder to. I had chose the wrong setting.

Great instructable!I've made a 12 button, 7 potentiometer, 1 encoder midi board using a teensy LC.I've tried a few different settings for the encoder, as pointed out in the example sketch's, but the midi channel seems to be the same if I rotate clockwise or anti clockwise. So the problem is if I choose a scroll up and a scroll down function in some midi software it doesn't recognize the two directions. It sees it as though I'm only scrolling in one direction.I've double checked my wiring and am using inputs 2 and 3 on the teensy.

Works fantastic!thank you for your help. How difficult would it be to have one of the GPIO pins go high or low via a DMX address? I would like to implement a relay and have one of the GPIO pins run a FET that would control a 5vdc relay. Thanks

    ESP8266 Artnet to DMX

Please help....I'm running Freestyler DMX and am using an N150 Netgear router. I believe I have the settings correct, but I would very much like help setting this up.I have a scope on the output and when I activate Freestyler the blue light on the ESP8266 comes on and there is data out, but it is not in DMX form. Please send me a pm so that we may connect through Facebook messenger or something.

Ok. I was able to compile and load the code by copy n pasting the other .ino files into the main code. I was also able to log in... Only after reading your new ws2812 write up and seeing that the password is no longer artNodexxxx (said number).Ok so I believe I have a hot spot and a node connecting to the hot spot successfully.I've gone through all the settings and I had assumed I could hard wire in DMX to the RX port of the hot spot, but in the setup it mentions ports being disabled in hot spot mode. Are these intended to be receivers only?I'm running Freestyler on my laptop, so do I need to run a wifi hub there? Thanks

Not sure this matters... But line 138 looks like a bunch of text on top of each other. I've tried to copy and paste it out of the git website... But the IDE does not look nice like the GIT web page does.

I have also tried downloading the ESP Arduino libraries locally vs using the boards manager. IDE recognized what I did and used them, but still no joy.WifiStartWebStartArtStartPortsetupAll not declared in the setup.

It was suggested on the Esp8266 forum page that the start functions.ino file needs to be included.... But how? Turn it into a library and call it out?

Seems this problem also extends to the previous version.

how does this work, in practice? How does your DMX controller actually control the relays? The code would make it look like all eight are activated, once the address is over 128?How could you set an address for each relay?

I have been looking over the code and would like to incorporate a DMX activated relay. Could you please point me in the right direction? GPI04 is still open... maybe there is a way to incorporate a FET on that output? My end goal is to mod my smoke machines and make them wireless. So that I may control them with the rest of my DMX equipment.

This may go along with the previous question... Why the additional resistor network on the DMX out of the MAX485 chip? It wasn't on your version one schematic. I have also made a USB to DMX converter with the MAX485 chip and have not had to use pull up resistors. Were you getting a lot of DMX line noise?

  • FTDI USB Adapter Based DMX Transmitter With Isolation

I wanted to thank you for posting this. I made mine with FTDIs MM232R module that has a USB type B receptacle. There is a program to download, from FTDI so that you can assign one of the pins as a TX or Rx LED output. ( There are some gotchas with this module, so if anyone elses uses it, please read the data sheet.)Other than that it works great! Interfacing an old Dell c400 laptop, with Freestyler DMX software to control my ADJ pocket scans !

Does Frestyler automatically recognize this, or are there some other steps to take in order for freestyler to communicate with it?
