Figuring out the true meaning of certain words can leave one dumbfounded. Take 'dumb' and 'stupid'. While these terms may seem similar, their connotations couldn’t be more different: ‘Dumb’ implies a lack of intelligence or an inability to speak - making it severely derogatory toward individuals with speech/developmental disabilities.
