I suggest you re title this article.This is not a high gain amplifier - it is a ***pre-amp***. Industry standard gain for a audio pre-amp is 1-2vpp. .5w will not drive a speaker larger than 2-3" so it really will only drive a very meager set of low power headphones.

I am a aircraft mechanic and also use a copper based bearing grease product as anti-seize for spark plugs - works great! Champion makes a supposed anti-seize that looks very thin and black for aviation. my experience and all mechanics I have talked to believe it doesn't work.

I don't own a 3d printer - I have been price watching. But, it looks to me like the body could be built in two pieces and the handle attached as another piece. I don't expect Instructable authors to provide EXACTLY what I need - just a good starting point. Should Instructables ban cooking and welding projects because not everyone ones a microwave oven or mig, tig, and plasma cutter?

Ultrasonic won't work. One of the ways you test the quality of a ultrasonic tank is to put thin aluminum in it and see if it starts to disintegrate it after a minute or so. Aluminum is very sensitive to "work hardening" which in layman's language means bending (vibration). That's why airplanes are sent to the bone yard after a certain number of years.

Yes, the paint used on the Zeppelin was a mixture of iron and aluminum oxide - which was later used as rocket propellant. There is some photographic evidence that static electricity sparked the paint at the rear back side. I am an a retired A&P mechanic. Caustic soda will not work - it attacks the aluminum. Mechanics must use other means (solvent) to clean oily aluminum case aircraft engines. Car engines (steel & iron) can be boiled in caustic soda.

As mentioned, this is a DC pulse (square wave). In order for it to be AC it must have reverse current (that's what alternating means). In this case, the current is being turned on and off, but it does not reverse in direction, which would be needed to be AC.

You can connect a 40 or 60W bulb directly to the 12v. The filament in the bulb is nothing more than a resistive wire (like a toaster). This technique is commonly used in remote places in an emergency (I lived in Alaska for 40yrs). For the wise crackers that commented already, resistive components could care less whether it's AC or DC. They run on current not volts. This is also the same principle hobbiest use for hot wire foam cutters.

I hate to spoil your fun ( I do understand the adventure of experimenting), but you can run incandescent light bulbs directly off the 12v battery. Buy choosing different wattage bulbs (different resistance) the bulbs will burn at different brightness.

As I mentioned above, if a LM386 won't do it, then I prefer the tda2822. It is up to 3w stereo and can be used with microprocessor supplies; 3-15v. Almost all my work ends up on 3-5v now days. I rarely use a 6-12v pwr supply.How things change. 40years ago I usually needed 67-1/2v & 48v A&B power, then it was 24v, then 12v, now its 5v !!!

I am not trying to dishearten you, but "a book on audio" is far to general a request. I would suggest you study 1 and two transistor audio amplifiers. Thanks for the extra effort and details. This SOOO much better than most the chip instructible where someone just redrew a Google standard circuit and slapped it on thier Arduino, Raspberry Pie, or head phones - :)

Please provide specs!A good informative instructable will give the critical specs in the first one or two paragraphs. What are the operating voltage and amperage limitations. You don't know, be honest and say you don't know the limits but it was tested with this or that...

I was a volunteer minister in prisons for several years. There is a long list of things the inmates do because many common objects and substances are banned. One of the things they use toothpaste for is GLUE. They even hang pictures and make paper mache` objects. A prison official said it is commonly used to make handles on sharp objects - such as "ice pick" weapons.

I have used it on my reading glasses and scratched CD roms. It "improves" them but does not eliminate the scratches. It does not seem to work on DVD's because the data tracks require better resolution.

The IRFZ44 is rated up to 40W. It would be interesting to see someone with the math know how to calculate the watts of this project.

Several of the western states that I have lived in require a mechanical transfer toggle switch (double pole, double throw). They have the mechanical handle and blade like a Frankenstein movie. You insert this switch/box between the main line to your breaker box. One position feeds from the electrical pole, while the other position feeds from the generator. This prevents the linemen from being electricuted by your generator.

You can get the same effect with less trouble by just wiping the wood with a damp cloth. The wood fibers will stick up :)

Good point. This got me to thinking about when I use to pressure wash before painting. If you get the pressure washer too close to the wood it will remove about 1/16" of the soft grain; the effect leaves a very polished look, simular to drift wood - another possibility!

Other things that I was told about but did not work for ants was Ajax, Borax, vinegar, etc

Two things I regularly use baking soda for...1) Gap filler for glue - especially epoxy and super glue. Makes the glue much softer and eaysier to sand. 2) Polish, ie. auto plastic parts such as headlights covers.

I tried this for ants in the Seattle area and it did not work :(

Just a thought for those thinking of running out and sharpening their whole index. Most bits have nitride coatings a few thousandths thick. Once you touch the tip to a sharpener it will dull twice as fast. Therefor never sharpen a drill the first time until you must. After that you will have to sharpen it frequently.

Thanks! I'v always wanted something that made consistent edge distance holes and you've solved all the head scratching :) The only thing I might add is dowl pins on 1/2" centers so that strips can be quickly butted at cordinal distances.

Add a little rice or beans and a chicken or goat once in awhile and a person could pretty much eat off the land. I guess the frontier pioneers knew what they were doing!

Great tip. I did a google search and found "food grade" used by farmers for about $30 US dollars for 50lb sack. (They put it in grain sillos)

This is an idea that I would expect to see on "Shark Tank" and you should be making several thousand dollars a year. This isimpler than another humane trap I have ever seen :)
