Fairly easy to make and only used hand tools.

Step 1: Tools/materials

These are all of the tools you will need to make a wooden belt buckle. I recommended using solid wood if you are doing any inlay like I did. I used a scrap piece of pine.

Step 2: Making the Blank

Using a square make a rectangle shape on your board and cut it out. After you have your rough rectangle use the coping saw to cut off the edges. You can make whatever shape you want but I found it easier to use rectangles.

Step 3: Rounding the Blank

Using some files and sand paper you can achieve a really nice soap bar like shape.

Step 4: Inlaying

At this point you could finish the buckle, but I wanted to take it one step further and inlay some metal nuts. so I used a hand drill to drill holes just a little bit smaller that needed for the nut and pounded it in with a hammer to achieve the hexagonal shape. I then removed the nuts and filled the holes with well mixed epoxy and used bits of paper towell to protect my clamps from squeeze out. (For inlaying do not drill the holes all the way through the wood.)

Step 5: Sanding and Adding Detail

First I sand off the excess epoxy and finish the front up to 150 grit. Next I woodburn my design into it. Then on the back part of my buckle I got creative and that is what you will have to do. Lastly I finished it with a little danish oil. The tube was attached just with hot glue.
