Introduction: 2 Notepads From One
Have you ever just wanted a pad of paper? Something to take notes on. Here's a cheap way to get all the scrap paper you need.
Be careful people. Power tools involved.
Step 1: Assemble Materials, Prepare Wire and Cut Book
Tools needed: mitre saw and wire snips.
Get a 8 1/2" x 11" spiral lined notebook from a dollar store. Cost: $1
1.Using the wire snips, cut the wire of the note book in the center.
2.Carefully twist the two pieces of wire onto themselves leaving the center of the notebook clear of wire. Make sure there is no wire in the path of the mitre saw. The wire could damage the saw blade.
3.Using your mitre saw, cut the note book down the center. Voila! Now you have two lined 8 1/2 x 5" note books.

Alp,
I, too, am impressed. One of the easiest and cheapest things to buy, is one-subject 8 1/2 by 11, and 8 by 10 1/2 at sales just before school starts. These are fine for school but not when you want to carry something around as a personal or special-purpose notebook.
Being able to stock up on the cheap books and cut them up is, to me, cool. I have not before seen someone do an instructable on this, and I appreciate it. These are also great for the workshop - the less table space a notebook takes up, the better. (within reason).
Austinisi is right, also, and a simple way to do this, is to use a GBC "binding machine" to make the holes for the plastic "combs".
Good luck.

so... trax2x that's an interesting comment: "worst instructable ever" tell me were the instructions not clear? or did you think it dumb to salvage old notebooks and turn them into scrap paper. Remember: "inventions are solutions to a problem or an annoyance" that's what I did. I solved a problem. think about it. maybe you can come up with a great idea or invention.

A note pad has already been invented, just to let you know.

I don't know, I've seen some pretty bad instuctables... But definitely one of the worst. It looks like alp spent more time on his response then his instructable

don't you mean 2 8 1/2" X 5.5" not 5"

Also... the effort is not worth it to save 50 cents.....

This would be much cooler if the lines on the paper were the other direction, so that the spiral could be at the top and not the side (when you write on the lines).
