Introduction: $30 Hospital Bassinet

About: I like to make things. Art, inventions, tools, ukuleles, etc...

Hospital bassinets are really handy. They have wheels, storage for diapers, wipes, clothes, etc. But they cost $2000-$3000 each, so most people don't buy them for their homes. This is incredibly easy. We used it for both kids. Before and after each kid used it, these are just two general storage containers we use for other things.

Step 1: Materials and Tools

a 3-drawer plastic storage cart or similar

a big storage tub

2-4 zip ties

extra towels in a pillowcase

drill and bit (1/4" or so)

Step 2: Drill Holes and Zip Tie

Take the drawers out of the cart. This makes it easier to feed the zip ties through the holes. Drill holes in pairs through both the tub and the cart top. Do as many as you want, but two pairs was enough for us. Zip tie them together. Done.

Step 3: Load It Up

Step 4: Totally Reversible

When your kid outgrows the bassinet, just clip the zip ties and it's as if it never existed. Nothing to throw away (except the ties). Cheers.
