Introduction: Alcohol Candle

Simple and effective means of lighting a room. These decorative lights are easy to make and easy to refill. If you don't know how to make a wax candle in a post-SHTF situation, this would be right up your alley.

Step 1: Step 1: Gather Your Supplies.

A set of dollar store salt and pepper shakers glass/metal. (DO NOT USE PLASTIC! IT WILL MELT AND BURN YOUR HOUSE DOWN!!!)

70% or 91% isopropyl alcohol, denatured alcohol or ethanol. Anything with a 150 or greater proof.

50 ft cotton clothesline, again from dollar tree. Do not get the nylon line, they do not absorb alcohol and if lit it will melt into the alcohol and create a grenade!

A roll of aluminum foil.

Large scissors.

A carpentry nail at least 3" long.

A decent hammer unless you can push nails with your bare hands (Like I can :) )

Step 2: Step 2: Assembly.

First remove the cap from the salt/pepper shaker. Next use the nail to enlarge the center hole on the cap from the top.

Take a small piece of aluminum foil and fold it into a 1" x 1" square. Place this square into the inside of the cap. Screw the cap back onto the glass component. There should be a snug fit.

Next, take the nail and push through the top of the cap and through the foil to make a hole.

Cut a 3" segment of the clothes line and place the segment through the top of the hole until the remaining top half inch is left exposed at the top.

Step 3: Step 3: Fill and Light

At this point, all that remains is filling your candle. Unscrew the cap and fill to just half way inside the neck of the glass segment. Place the line end back in and screw the cap back on.

Allow a minute for the alcohol to soak into the cotton line, otherwise you're just burning line needlessly.
