Introduction: Apple Bandsaw Box

About: I love working with wood. I make bandsaw boxes and just lately ive got a lathe and now enjoy woodturning.

Hi and welcome to my latest instructable. I have added the video for you to view should you not be clear on any of my instructions, and also this shows the process in a lot more detail that can be put into written instructions.

Well lets get to it :-)

I used

Wood to fit template i used 3 inch deep and the back of the box is around an inch thick.

Bandsaw 1/8 inch blade for cutting out box and 1/4 / 1/2 inch blade for cutting back and front of boxes.

1/4 inch wood for tree on the front

Sandpaper 120 - 600 grit

Glue

Fimo clay or similar for handles.

Clay tools

Template (google free bandsaw box template)

Spray lacquer.

Step 1:

Gather the wood you need and glue your template onto the front. I recommend covering the template with clear tape as later you will need to remove the tree shape.

Step 2:

Now we are ready to start cutting the box out.

First cut around the outside of the box.

Next cut outer band of the box.

lastly cut each of the boxes, take your time and if you want more information on this check out the video.

Step 3:

Now we are going to cut the backs and fronts from the boxes.

I free hand draw a line around 1/2 an inch from front of the box and around 1/4 inch for the back of the box. I then cut front and back off on bandsaw.

With the front and back of box out of the way i mark the inner box ready to cut this is also done on the bandsaw.

The drawers are now ready to be glued.

Step 4:

Once ive glued the drawers im ready to start sanding them i mainly use a drum sander which i put in my pillar drill.

I then peel the paper from the tree on the front of the box and cut the branches and stick onto the 1/4 thick wood ready to cut on bandsaw.

Once cut, i sand all pieces and get them ready to clue them to the front of the box.

Step 5:

Now its time to glue the back on the box.

Glue the tree on the front. (make sure the tree shape fits perfect and does not overlap or the drawers wont go in and out without catching) i used a dremel to sand these parts

Sand everything to 400/600 and use 2 coats of sand sealer sanding 400 between coats.

Lastly i use spray lacquer to finish.

Step 6:

Now lastly lets make the handles.

Roll out the the red clay into a ball.

Using a pointed plastic clay tool push in a short way see photos or video.

Roll a thin sting like bit with brown clay, cut and place in hole to look like stork of apple.

Using the green clay roll to a thin layer and cut a diamond shape.

Shape to look like a leaf and make marks like a leaf vain before placing on the apple.

Bake as instructions on your packet.

Once cool use 2 part epoxy to glue onto the draw.

Step 7:

All done.

I hope you enjoyed.
