Introduction: Arduino Controlled Car With Colission Avoidance
Given the proper time and love, this car will avoid things in front of it. come and follow along as we go through the steps to build this awesome project...
Step 1: Gather Materials
Grab an old car from your local thrift store, and gather all the necessary parts..
1 Arduino Uno microcontroller
1 SR04 sonic sensor
1-2 9V battery packs (I used one to control motors and one for the arduino) or rechargable batteries of your choice
1 l298 motor driver
2 LEDS
1 servo motor
2 100 ohm resistors for LEDS
2 four hole female heads
multiple jumper wires.
Step 2: Step 2: Gut the Car
1. strip the car of all the remote control parts because you will need that space for the Arduino UNO.
2. take out the front DC motor for the steering so we can replace it with the Servo motor.
Step 3: Step 3: Begin Construction
Get creative with the placement of the componants.
the Arduino Uno should sit easily where the RC unit was.
Use some hard wire to use with the servo to get the steering correct (this will take trial and error)
I placed the motor driver on the back, and the battery packs under the car using velcro.
Connect the sonic sensor to the grill of the car using your favorite glue or epoxy (mine is Hot Glue)
Connect the LEDs with Resistors to the Grill of the car as well.
use the negative and positive bar from a bread board for a power strip and grounding bar.
Step 4: Step 4: Program the Arduino
Use what you know about programing to try and figure out a good code for colission avoidance.
if you can't figure one out you can use mine.

Step 5: Step 5: Enjoy Your New Toy As It Avoids Things in Front of It!!
Enjoy knowing that you made something that you didn't know you could before.
HAVE FUN!!!!

I found an old car that already had a motor for acceleration from my local thrift shop, the arduino and servo motor as well as wires and sensors can all be found on ebay or amazon or think geek. or even your local hobby shop will have mostly everything you need minus the Arduino..... thanks

This is a really cool project concept. I loved to see the details on the build progress in your youtube video. I would like to see your schematics if you can post them.
