Introduction: Bacon Wrapped Weenies
I originally wanted to title this "How to make a man fall in love with you" but figured that men are not the only ones who are defenseless to the siren calls of the bacon wrapped weenie. Thus, the very simple, matter of fact, "Bacon Wrapped Weenies" became the official name.
This very simple and very savory treat has been a great success for pretty much every event I have ever brought it to, with the exception to a party that I went to that was hosted by vegetarian friend. So with that said... bake away and ENJOY!
Step 1: Ingredients
It is almost impossible to mess this one up. You can get any brand and in any quantity, any flavoring....the variations are endless.
For this recipe, I just got
-a 16 oz package of "Lil Smokies"
-16 oz of Bacon. Thick cut, peppered, smokey, its really up to you and your preference in flavor palette. (Make sure the bacon is cold as it becomes easier to work with)
-a 1lb box of dark brown sugar (You can use light brown, however I find that the intensity of the sweetness is lacking. The molasses-y taste is much more vibrant in the dark brown, but again, its totally up to you)
-a box of round toothpicks (Avoid toothpicks with color as the dye will bleed into the food when your baking, and flat ones, as they don't seem as strong to pierce through all that meaty goodness)
-shallow baking dish, glass/ceramic casserole dish, or roasting pan (stay away from cookie sheets as the grease from the bacon may overflow)
Step 2: Prep
Preheat your oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit. While that is working its way up, get a bowl of cold water and dunk some of your toothpicks in there. This will prevent the toothpicks from breaking and splintering later after being in the heat.
Open up your package of bacon and take the whole slab of bacon out of the packaging. Then slice the whole thing in half.
Open up your package of weenies. Id place the weenies in a bowl or something (You won't need all of them) once you open the package as there tends to be a lot of meat juice.... mmmmmmm meat juice.
Step 3: More Prep
Once you have all your items out; toothpicks, weenies, bacon.... its time to start rollin!
Take one piece of bacon (a half piece) and wrap the weenie.
then when the little guy is all snug in the bacon, pierce it with toothpick to secure it in place. Again, make sure the bacon is cold... as it sits, it becomes harder to work with, thus resulting in sloppy little weenies.
Place the bacon wrapped weenie on your baking apparatus.
Line them up so they are closely touching.
Step 4: Apply Brown Sugar
Sooo....now comes the good stuff. Applying the brown sugar. You should apply anywhere between 1/4 cup to a 1/2 cup of brown sugar. this is really up to you. Ideally, you want a good chunk of brown sugar on each weenie. While it may seem excessive when your piling it on, most of it will melt off in the cooking process, so to get that sweet crispy top, its best to go a little overboard on the brown sugar.
If you are concerned about the amount of sugar.... just keep in mind that your about to eat bacon wrapped meat.... i mean, why start acting healthy with the sugar?
When its all done, throw this bad boy into the oven for about 20-25 minutes, or until the bacon is cooked nicely (to your preference) and there is a slight golden caramelized crust on the bacon from the sugar.
Step 5: Nom Nom Nom
When these little delicious tidbits of magic are finished, pull them out and carefully place the weenies on a plate and ENJOY!

I make this every Christmas and they never last very long. I mix 2 parts brown sugar to one part ketchup, put it in a zip lock bag with the corner cut off and drizzle it across the weenies. You get better coverage that way. The brown sugar does not fall off and it is delicious!!

Made it for a little get-together this weekend. I changed the li'l smokies for some beef hotlinks I had in the freezer. They made a movie about it: "Gone in 60 Seconds!"

Ive been making these for years and they are the life of the party. Delicious crack on a stick, I like to add spices to taste in contrast to the sugar

My mom has made these for years! and they ar a very quick way to a man's heart! I went to a christmas cocktail party, and wanted to bring these, but they were to be served on a tray. So I stuffed them in a Croissant triangle, the Pilsbury ones, and they flew like hotcakes, and you could make a double batch, and cook them as they were needed.
You start them out the same way, wrapped in bacon, just without the brown sugar. After you bake them for about 20 minutes, you take them out, let them cool, and then start wrapping them. Inside the wrap, you put the weenie/bacon and sprinkle the brown sugar on top and then wrap it up. Bake them until golden brown, serve. They also go with honey mustard or ranch dippings

I had this recipe saved for a bit now, and this weekend I was invited to a small get-together, but the hostess said she didn't have much in the way of snacks. I recall this recipe, got all my ingredients and made them. Oh... my... goodness... They were such a hit! They went so fast; I had to make myself leave the kitchen after they were done to keep from eating them all! I'll definitely be making them again!

Looking at the pictures, the bacon on the weenies doesn't look very crispy, and looks like it may be a bit undercooked making the bacon chewy. But is that the case? Or am I wrong and the bacon is in fact crispy and chewable?
Just wondering, cuz these actually look very delicious and I'd want to try it, but I had to ask because I hate chewy bacon! >=P

Great observation... I actually ended up cooking them longer after I took this photo. I too like it a little crispier bc well.... no one likes wet bacon. I find that if you go too crisp tho, the bacon flavor becomes too overwhelming. that of course could be remedied with more sugar, such as life.
