Supplies

Ingredients:

  • 4 to 6 apples
  • 1/4 cup to 1/2 cup of brown sugar (50 to 100g)
  • 1/2 tsp of cinnamon (2g)
  • 1/4 tsp of nutmeg (1g)
  • 2 to 3 Tbsp of butter, 1/2 Tbsp per apple (28 to 32g)
  • 1/4 to 1/3 cup of chopped pecans (170 to 228g)

*NOTE: These measurements don't have to be exact, it depends on how much you fill the apples up and how big the apples are, and how many apples you use.

Tools/Equipment:

  • Air fryer
  • Small cake pan for air fryer or 8x8-inch to 9x13-inch baking pan for oven
  • Knife
  • Melon Baller
  • Tongs

Step 1: Mix Filling

In a small bowl mix together the brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Start with 1/4 cup of brown sugar, you can always easily make a little more if needed.

Step 2: Core/Scoop Out Center of Apples

Rinse and dry the apples. Now it is time to scoop out the center core to create a cavity. Don't core it all the way to the bottom.

To do this I like using a melon baller, but you can use a paring knife and spoon as well if you like. The melon baller works super well.

Step 3: Stuff Those Apples

Time to stuff the apples. Add a spoonful of the brown sugar mix to the apple. Then add about 1/2 Tbsp of butter. Follow that up with the chopped pecans and stuff them down into it.

Other ideas you could try besides nuts and brown sugar: Chopped candy bars, Rolos, sweetened shredded coconut, etc.

Step 4: Cook - Air Fryer

Time to cook these! For the air fryer, spray a small cake pan with cooking spray then add the apples to the pan.

Since I live by myself, this is my favorite option, because I don't have to heat up the whole oven for just one baked apple, and it takes less time in the air fryer.

Place the apple/apples and pan in the air fryer basket then slide it into the air fryer. Set the temperature to 350F/176C. And cook for 10 to 15 minutes until fork tender.

Slide the basket out and then use tongs to grab the apple and put in on a plate or place it in a bowl. If there is any juice left over in the pan, pour it over the apple.

Top with a small scoop of ice cream if desired.

Step 5: Bake - Oven Method

To bake them in the oven:

Preheat the oven to 350F/176C.

Place the stuffed apples in a large baking pan, large enough to hold all the apples. Make sure to spray the pan with cooking spray first.

Bake for 35 to 45 minutes until the apples are soft and fork tender.

Remove them from the oven and place them on a plate. Pour any juice in the pan over the apples. Top with ice cream if desired.

Then serve! Enjoy!
