Introduction: Baking Chocolate Chip Cookies

We will be making some simple chocolate chips cookies from scratch. They can turn out either fluffy or flat depending on how much flour you add. We will end up making about 12 cookies in this batch. I can't remember where I found this recipe but I remember it did make 24 cookies and I found that to be too many cookies so I cut it in half. If you would like to make more cookies you can double the recipe or triple depending on how many you want.

Supplies

1/2 Cup Butter

1/2 Cup white sugar

1/2 cup packed brown sugar

1 egg

2 TSP vanilla extract

1/2 TSP baking soda

1 TSP of hot water

1/4 TSP of salt

1 & 1/2 Cups of Flour

1 Cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

A large mixing bowl

Spoon

Oven

Baking Pan

Step 1: Melt Your Butter and Add Sugars

I find it best to put the butter into the mixing bowl and put that in the microwave until the butter is soft. Usually around 20 seconds. If you are following my recipe it will be one full stick of unsalted butter 1/2 cup of white sugar and 1/2 cup of packed brown sugar. Packed just means you push it down in your measuring cup until its all pushed together tightly. Mix those ingredients together until it is nice and smooth like in the picture.

Step 2: Add Egg(s) and Vanilla

Add 1 egg and 2 TSP of vanilla to the mixture in the bowl. Stir until egg and vanilla are mixed in nicely like the picture.

Step 3: Dissolve Baking Soda Into Hot Water and Add Salt

Now we will take 1/2 TSP of baking soda and add It to 1 TSP of Hot water. We do this so the baking soda will be more mixed in our batter. The baking soda needs to be stirred into the water. If we just tossed it in it wouldn't mix very well. Sprinkle 1/4 TSP of salt into batter.

Step 4: Add Flour to Batter

We will be adding 1 & 1/2 CUPS of flour to our mixture. You want to make sure you "fluff" the flour from the package or you will end up adding more flour then you need. You will know if you forgot to do this step because your cookies will come out very thick and fluffy. Just scoop up some and drop it a couple times to "fluff up" the flower.

Your batter will become MUCH thicker after this step.

Step 5: Add Chocolate Chips

Now we can add the chocolate chips. We will be adding about 1 CUP of semi-sweet choclate chips. You can add more or less depending on what you like.

Step 6: Preheat Oven to 350 F and Set Cookies on Pan in Balls

Set your oven to 350 F. While it is pre-heating, get a cookie pan ready. I like to lay down non-stick foil so I don't have to clean the pan. You want to use a tablespoon to create little balls of dough on your tray and space them a couple inches apart.

Step 7: Bake Your Cookies in the Oven

After your cookies are on the pan and your oven is done pre-heating, bake your cookies for about 10 minutes. You want to make sure they are golden brown.

Step 8: Enjoy Your Cookies

Now that your cookies have baked, let them sit for a little bit too cool and enjoy one with a glass of milk.
