Introduction: Band Saw Insert

Does it ever happen that you go to use a tool and some little part is missing? Here's what I did to cure a missing band saw insert using scraps.

Step 1: Bandsaw Insert From Scrap Plastic

I found a piece of scrap plastic left over from another project.

Step 2: Trimming the Plastic

Using the band saw, I trimmed off a strip to provide a straight edge, then I marked the plastic (with a screw) to fit the insert hole and ran a long strip the width of the hole. I turned it and marked it again, then I filed off the rough edges.

Step 3: Finishing Touches

I carefully made a slot in the insert, flipped it over and it fit perfectly. I no longer have to fish little pieces out of the saw and the blade doesn't jump its track.
