Introduction: Basics - Dump the Bundt (Cake)

I have never been happy to bake a bundt cake, but I really like to eat them. The problem I face is dumping the cake after baking. Invariably the cake sticks to the side of the pan somewhere, and there is no utensil that can make a clean cut between the cake and the pan. I've tried all the tricks: Coat the pan with oil, coat the pan with oil then flour--the flour cakes up and looks yucky, use a warm moist cloth after baking to somehow magically release the cake from the pan, wait 60 minutes and then try to dump it, etc. And, etc. I wish I could give credit to the person who came up with this unbelievably simple idea to make bundt baking easy, but I don't recall who it was. The idea needs to be shared widely!

Step 1: Equipment and Materials

Equipment:

  1. Bundt pan
  2. Pastry or basting brush
  3. Cereal bowl
  4. Spoon

Materials

  1. 2 Tablespoons Vegetable oil
  2. 1 Tablespoon Flour
  3. Cake mix for bundt cake

Step 2: The Magic Coating

This is the whole secret. Mix 2 tablespoons of oil together with 1 tablespoon of flour in a small bowl. Make sure the ingredients are totally mixed. Dump the whole mixture into the bundt pan.

Step 3: Coat the Entire Bundt Pan; Drain

Coat every square millimeter of the pan with the flour-oil mixture using a pastry or basting brush. Make sure that the entire inside of the bundt pan is coated. After the pan is coated, drain off the excess by turning the pan upside down into the kitchen drain--there is not much oil that drains off, so it won't hurt the environment too badly. You may want to use only 3/4 of the mixture, then there should not be any excess.

Step 4: Add the Cake Batter and Bake

Add the cake batter and bake it per instructions on the package or in the recipe. There must be thousands of bundt cake recipes. I won't bother you with YABCR (yet another bundt cake recipe). But, if you insist, I've attached the recipe I used. It happens to be a very delicious pudding cake.

Step 5: Dump the Bundt

This is the fun part. After the cake is finished baking, just take the pan right out of the oven and dump it on whatever surface you want the cake to be. See the video. It will come out absolutely clean!

Step 6: Eat the Cake

It would be silly to bake a cake without eating it. For goodness sake! Get out the fork and eat it.
