Introduction: Better Makerbot Replicator 2 Buttons
A more permanent solution to crappy soft buttons for your 3D printer.
I've tried the remote button repair kits and other techniques, and they always eventually fail. Adding momentary switches adds a satisfying click to moving through the menu.
At this point you're probably so frustrated with fixing these buttons, I don't need to tell you how to disassemble your LCD panel.
I used the soldering and electronics tools at TechShop to complete this project!
Step 1: Required Parts and Tools
You will need:
5x momentary push button switches

Soldering station and solder
X-acto knife
Step 2: Bend Momentary Button Connectors
This will make it sit more reliably on the board. Don't worry if the leads on the same side touch, those are already connected.
Step 3: Solder Onto Button Board
I tinned the pad, held the button on, and soldered. Note the direction to solder on the buttons, if any are turned 90° it will be always on instead of a button.
Step 4: Cut Jelly Buttons
Cut about half of the inside of the 5 buttons off to make room for the new buttons.

Thanks for a great suggestion! I had switches with only two leads, which made it really easy. Works like a charm.
