Intro: Bike Repair Stand Using a Pallet

This is how to make your own bike repair stand for under $40.

STEP 1: Mount Flange

Screw your flange down to the pallet. Mount in the middle of one of the outer boards.

STEP 2: Screw Together the Pipe

Assemble this upsidedown L out of the pipe. Make sure to tighten all the pipe as much as possible so your stand will be more secure.

STEP 3: Cut Your Board and Drill Seat-post Hole

Cut the 1 x 2 board in two 2.5 in sections. Then clamp them together and drill a hole ( the size will depend on the diameter of your bike's seat-post) through them. Once you've drilled your hole, epoxy one side of you clamp to one piece of wood and do the same with the other.

STEP 4: Put the Clamps On

Slide the jockeying part of the clamp on, then screw the outer tightening part on.

STEP 5: Put Bike in and Tighten Clamp, Now You're Ready to Rip

whats the maximum weight it can realistically hold,
i have a heavy e-bike [28kg] and was wondering if i should use thicker tubing to compensate the weight

Nice and simple! I like it.
But 4 screws in the base are not going to hold it when I get angry eh serious with my bike.... Needs bolts through the wood block.
And I would put a sheet of old plywood on top as a deck. Less trippin'
And maybe on old magnet on the horizontal pipe to hold the nuts and bolts I take off the bike.
And.... too many ideas!

I'm thinking an old car rim or a 5 gallon bucket with concrete in it for the base.

Very Cool Idea. Reading it I was thinking of taking an old car rim and mounting your pipe floor flange to it. That way it would take up less space.

If you need to lower the center of gravity, cover the holes in the rim and fill it with concrete. Or you could use a 5 gallon bucket with some concrete in it as the base.

Wonderful idea. I would put a piece of plywood on the pallet to keep from getting my foot in-between the slats and maybe twisting or worse breaking an ankle. This would put a end to your cycling year. I may modify this to fit into a vice on my workbench and that way take up less room. For going to a race somewhere this work station would be fantastic. I'll bet with a little work and imagination you could put a tool holder on the upright to keep your tools handy

Good ideas. On a similar theme, I fitted a tow ball to the pallet and mounted the car bike rack. ( it was a little low though)

I like it, but how much does all of those parts cost? Could be more than you pay for a pre made stand.

Not at all, I payed just under $40 at home depot. Bike stands cost at least $150 if not more.

Yes, but that is because I have clipless on my bike so it is relatively narrow. You might want to measure from the seatpost to the outside of your pedal and use a longer horizontal piece of pipe.
