Introduction: Building a Easy Grinder Cutting

We often try to

make cuts using a grinder. However due to the characteristics of the equipment and the part itself, these cuts are much to be desired, very bad. I went through a similar situation and in the absence of a better option had to use a grinder. As expected the depth cut did not look good. I then did this jig to help me get better cuts. The equipment is very simple and can make good cuts.

This design is associated with the basis for straight cut. So the two can work together facilitating the use of equipment.

Step 1: Material

50 cm bar - 7/8 x 1/8 ";

100 cm 3/8 "corner;

20 cm iron 5/16 ";

4 screws 5/16 x 1 ";

4 butterflies 5/16 ";

Piece wood of 30 x40 cm.

Step 2: Preparing Material

  • Cut 4 pieces of iron bar 7/8 x 1/8 ";
  • Next, make a 100 x 6 mm channel. Starting from one end to the center. Initially drill two holes and make the cut with jigsaw.

See photo.

  • Then make two holes that served for fixing. See photo.
  • From the end of the two holes mark 25 mm and fold in "L".

See photo.

  • Cut two pieces of 60mm iron bar - 7/8 x 1/8";
  • Mark 10 mm from one end and drill a 5/16 diameter hole in both pieces.
  • From the end where the hole was made, mark 40 mm and make a 90 ° bend in "L".

See photo;

  • Cut two pieces of 40 mm bar iron - 7/8 x 1/8";
  • Mark 10 mm from one end and drill a 5/16 diameter hole in both pieces.

See photo

  • Cut two pieces of 100mm round iron 5/16 ";
    At the ends make a slight fold;
  • Cut two piece of 500 mm from corner 3/8 "

Step 3: Mounting the Rails

  • In one of the pieces of 500 mm of corner 3/8 ", weld the two folded piece in" L "to the 90 mm of the rim. One on each of the edges.

See photo.

  • In the other pieces of 500 mm from corner 3/8 ", weld the two piece 40 mm of flat Bar-7/8 x 1/8" to the 90 mm of the rim. One on each of the edges.

See photo.

  • Like the rails already assembled, we started to assemble the whole structure of rails.
  • As these rail will be used in conjunction with the grinder base then the width of the rail will have the same width as the base.
  • To facilitate welding while mounting the rails, Place the base in the center of the rails and fasten the base to the rails, one on each side of the base. Using the bracket check the alignment of the rails. While everything is aligned, we begin to join the rails by welding a piece of 100 mm round iron 5/16 "one at each end of the rail on the bottom, with the concavity facing down. Please do not make the final weld immediately.
  • After completing this step check the alignment of the rail and if necessary make adjustment. If all is correct Proceed with the final weld. The final result should look like the photos.

Note: The width of the rails will be according to the width of the base of the grinder.

Step 4: The Wood

  • A wooden piece was used with the following dimensions 355 x 240 mm. These measures are not critical to be adjusted to each case.

Note the drawing.

  • Mark the points where the arms will be fixed. Start by marking the 1st point in the lower right corner.
  • Using the square measure to left an angle of 90 º and mark the place to fix the next leg. Then still used the square to forward an angle of 90 º and mark the 3rd point. Finalizing the 4th-point mark.

Fixing the legs

  • Finished the markings we passed the fixing of the legs.
  • Start by screwing one of the four legs into the wood. Based on the lower right corner of the 1st leg.

See Drawing and photos

  • Then, always using the bracket fix the remaining legs following the markings.
  • Done this screw (hold) the tracks on this leg align with the other points, already marked and pass the fixed legs. Always use the square to check the angles to align them
  • In this first moment it is good to use only one screw. The second one will be fixed soon after checking all the measurements and these are correct.
  • At the end you will have something similar to the photo

Step 5: Assembly and Testing

Fasten the rails to the legs, already fixed to the wooden base.

For fixing we use the screws with the butterflies.

To hold the pieces in the wood a channel was made to allow to put a pair of clips.
