Introduction: Buzz Wire Game Using Makey Makey and Scratch

This is a game by my 11 years old, he built and programmed this game with his younger brother to have some distraction during the COVID19 closure and he wanted to participate in the Online Coolest Projects showcase.

"I took the main idea for setting the game from Frustration project from the Raspberry Pi Foundation https://projects.raspberrypi.org/en/projects/frustration. I don't have a microbit but I have a Makey Makey, so I used MM instead. I wanted a game to play with my brother during the COVID19 closure. I made it multiplayer and I am keeping track of the time instead of counting how many fails. The player who finishes in less time win! Have fun!" _ Mohammed

Supplies

  • Makey Makey
  • Aligator clips
  • Metal Wires
  • Aluminium Tape (Optional)

Step 1: Making the Wand

As Mohammed said, let us use our metal bending skills and make our magical wand. Take a piece of wire, about 20cm and bend in half then twist at the end.

Tip: if you want to make the game harder, twist the wand to make smaller gap.

Step 2: Making the Course

Take another piece of wire about 50cm long and bend the middle part of the wire into shape, you can do lots of ups and downs to make a rollercoaster and make it more fun.

Note: He used double wires and twisted them together because the wires weren't hard enough to stand by itself.

Step 3: Connecting Your Makey Makey

Now you need to connect your Makey Makey to the game and the Scratch program here https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/407712428.

  • Player1:
    • Connect the wand to Right arrow of the MM (He used the aluminium tape to attach the wire to the wand so it won't drop)
    • Connect the Course to earth
    • Connect the Up arrow to the finish button (You can have a metallic button, a piece of aluminium foil or just the alligator clip.
  • Player2:
    • Connect the wand to Left arrow of the MM (He used the aluminium tape to attach the wire to the wand so it won't drop)
    • Connect the Course to earth
    • Connect the Down arrow to the finish button (You can have a metallic button, a piece of aluminium foil or just the alligator clip.

Have Fun!
