Introduction: Cardboard Document/book Stand

About: I'm an electronic engineer; I like everything that is Do It Yourself

Hello to everybody!

I’ ll show you how to make an useful and simple cardboard stand suitable for books, documents, music sheet, tablets, ebook reader and so on.

It’s entirely made out of recycled cardboard, so it’s ecofriendly and simple to do.

Step 1: Materials Needed:

- cardboard – the type with two layers of waves is good for the project for its strength

- pencil

- ruler

- cutter

- protractor

- paper tape

Step 2: Planning:

Thinking to the project I had to answer to a question: If I use the stand for reading a book, what is the correct angle of the book relative to the plane?

After doing some tests I decided that an angle of about 65° is good for the stand; maybe someone could prefer an angle of 60° or 70°...You can do some tests and decide what’s the best for you.

The stand is made out of four pieces of cardboard.

This is the cutting plan of the cardboard.

Step 3: Cutting!

Looking at the pattern you can see that pieces A and B must be made using the protractor to make the correct angle.

Here you can vary the angle marked as 65° according to your preference.

Step 4: Assembling:

The A and B pieces must be attached to the C piece as designed using the paper tape that acts as an hinge.

Step 5: ...almost Done...

The cuts marked with E and F serve to block the stand; the D piece needs to be inserted in the G cut until is blocked.

Step 6: Testing...

The cardboard stand is done and you can use it.

When the stand is not in use, you can keep it away in a little space because it is completely foldable.

In the last photo my young son Joe is testing the stand.

Enjoy!
