A simple way to add a bit of rustic to your room.

Step 1: Seal, Seal, Seal!

Most celing tiles have lead paint and/ or some form of asbestos.

Pick up a latex, epoxy or urethane sealant at you local hardware store.

We liked the look of the peeling cracking paint. With this being said we didn't want to sand it or remove the cracking paint, and we didn't want to be sleeping in lead paint chips or asbestos flakes.

We applied about 4 coats of sealant (3 cans) over 5 days. To knock down the shine we sprayed a clear flat coating.

Step 2: Measure and Cut

We measured the size of the celing tiles added on the size of the trim we liked and cut the plywood accordingly

Step 3: Fit and Clamp

We cut all trim to 45 degrees. Simply fit and clamp in place.

Step 4: Blade Swap

Switch from a wood blade to a metal blade.

Table saws make better cuts but other saws will work just fine!

Step 5: Measure and Cut Again

Measure the size in between your trim frame and cut tiles to size.

Step 6: Fit

Make sure your tiles fit Snugly!

Step 7: Remove and Paint

Remove tiles and paint trim and the boarder. Just in case it can be seen later.

We used chalk paint to make it look vintage.

Step 8: Attach Trim

Place tiles in center to make sure of a snug fit.

Clamp the corners and nail trim.

Step 9: Clamp Again

I used sanding blocks and a few scrap pieces of wood to hold down the celing tiles while the dried.

Step 10: Mount

Normally I would just cut my own brackets.

In this case though I found flush mount brackets at the hardware store for $15 bucks.

Mount one to the wall and one to the headboard.

Step 11: Get a Friend to Help Out

Some friends help more than others.....

Step 12: Mount and Enjoy
