Introduction: Cheesy Pull-Apart Bread

About: I enjoy making and doing all sorts of things. Check back often to see my newest Instructables.

I have loved making bread for many years and I've always enjoyed coming up with new ways to enjoy this delicious food. I came up with this recipe for one of our football game parties and it was a huge hit with my family. I made this bread with a party setting in mind so it is really easy for people to just tear off a single serving sized portion without having to cut it at all.

Step 1: Ingredients

The ingredients you will need for this bread are:

  • 2 cups lukewarm water
  • 2 teaspoons (One packet) yeast
  • 4 - 5 cups flour
  • 2 Tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 3 teaspoons basil
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon oregano

For the topping:

  • 1 cup shredded cheese (whatever type you want)
  • 2 Tablespoons melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon basil

Step 2: Start the Dough

To begin your bread, warm up the water (about 45 seconds in a microwave) and mix in the yeast. Let that sit for five minutes. Then, add 3 cups of flour (the rest will be used later), the olive oil, and the spices. Mix the dough well. After that is mixed, I add flour, usually by the half cup, until the dough is solid enough to be kneaded.

Step 3: Finish the Dough

Lightly flour your work surface and knead your dough for 5-10 minutes. Then place it into a bowl, cover it with plastic wrap, and place it in a warm place to rise for 30-35 minutes or until it has doubled in size.

Step 4: Finishing the Bread

After it has risen, cut the dough into 16 equal pieces and place them into a greased 8x8 pan. Melt your 2 tablespoons of butter and mix it with the remaining basil. Spread the butter evenly over the bread and top it with the cup of cheese. Any type of cheese would work for this, but I choose to use cheddar.

After you've prepared the bread, bake it at 375 degrees for 25-35 minutes. You can check if it's done with an instant read thermometer. The inside of the bread should be 200 degrees when it is finished.

Step 5: Serving

You should be able to just turn over the baking pan and have the bread fall right out. I like to serve it on a cutting board because it is easy then for people to just grab a piece. The basil really gives the bread a great flavor by itsel but in my opinion it never hurts to add butter.

I hope you enjoy this bread recipe and would love to hear how it turned out for you in the comments below.
