Introduction: Cherry Chocolate Pastry Swirls

These Cherry Chocolate roles are surprisingly easy to make. They taste amazing and look showstopping. I normally am not a person who likes fruit in her dessert, but this recipe is one of the few exceptions. The base dough can be used for a variety of sweet and savory dishes, but this filling takes the cake.

Supplies

For the dough, you will need:

400 g of flour (plus some extra for dusting your table)

42 g of yeast

200 ml of lukewarm whole milk

salt

2 egg yolks

40 g melted butter

For the filling, you will need:

100 g cherry jam

40 g flaked almonds

30 g chocolate chips

1 egg yolk

2 tbs whole milk

Step 1: Getting Started

Preheat to oven to 350 F. Grease a 10 x 10 square pan with butter. Put the flour in a large bowl, and make a well in the center.

Step 2: Preparing the Yeast

Mix the yeast into the lukewarm milk, and pour into the flour.

Step 3: Add the Ingredients

Add the egg yolks, a pinch of salt, and the melted butter to the mixture. Stir until it starts to pull away from the bowl.

Step 4: Knead the Dough

Knead the dough until it comes together. Cover it, and let it sit in a warm place for 20-30 minutes. It should double in size.

Step 5: Add the Filling and Bake

Roll out the dough so that it is roughly 30 x 40 cm. Spread the cherry jam evenly, and sprinkle the chocolate chips and half of the almonds onto it. Roll the dough up, and cut into 8 pieces. Mix the egg yolk with the two tablespoons of milk to make an egg wash. Brush it onto the rolls, and sprinkle the remaining almonds on top. Bake for 25-30 minutes.

Step 6: Voila!

And now you have cherry chocolate pastry swirls, and they weren't even hard to make! If you can, you should probably wait for them to cool down before eating them, but I never do. I hope you get the chance to try this recipe out because it is certainly a keeper.
