Introduction: Chicago Style Deep Dish Pizza

About: I enjoy sewing, cooking, baking and using glitter as much as possible. Creating just relaxes and energizes me. I love that, making thing's is something I can share with my children.

This recipe has me sooooooooooo excited. First because I’ve really been wanting to try to make a deep dish pizza. Secondly because it turned out sooooooooooo well. It’s nice to surprise yourself with your own cooking. I must admit that I was a bit nervous as to how the family would like it. All I have to say is by the time I went to get more…..it was all gone. Which was great because it was a hit and sad because I really wanted another piece. Oh well at least I have a recipe now…..that is easy to replicate and allows for tons of creativity, tailored to your needs.

Step 1:

Ingredients for making the dough

2 C. All Purpose Flour

1 C. Whole Grain or Wheat Flour ( you can also just use 3 Cups of All Purpose)

1 C. warm water

1 tsp. active dry yeast

1 tsp. sugar

1/2 tsp. sea salt

1 tsp garlic powder

1 tsp onion powder

1 tsp dried oregano

1 Tbsp. Olive oil

Filling

Cheese(s) of choice

Meat and or veggies of choice ( I used Turkey Bacon, Deli sliced Turkey, onions and spincach

Step 2: Method

1. In a measuring, cup add your water, yeast and sugar. Mix well and set aside for 5 minutes.

2. In a food processor or large bowl add the water mixture and 1 Cup of Flour and mix, add another cup of Flour and mix, add the last cup of Flour, oil, salt and seasoning and mix until you have a ball of dough.

3. Knead your dough…..no need to add flour to the counter. Drizzle a large bowl with olive oil place your dough inside and drizzle a little olive oil on top.Cover with plastic wrap and let it rise in a warm spot for a minimum of 30 minutes or up to overnight in the refrigerator.

4. Grease a 9×2 in baking pan with olive oil.

5. Start prepping your toppings of choice. I decided on Mozzarella cheese, Turkey Bacon, Spinach, Turkey, Marinara, dried Basil, Cracked Black Pepper, and Onion.

6. Pre-heat oven to 450°

Once your dough has risen. Lay your dough onto your counter. Cut off 1/3 of the dough and set aside. (This will be your top layer)

7. With a rolling pin roll out your dough, larger than your baking pan.

8. Lay your dough into your pan, making sure to get out any air bubbles.

9. Add your topping in the order you choose. (I added cheese, basil, black pepper, spinach, Turkey bacon, onion, and turkey)

10. Roll out the dough you set aside lay it into your pan again making sure to get out the air bubbles. Tear a few hole into the dough to allow the steam to escape while cooking. Spoon on 4 tablespoons of marinara sauce.

11. Roll the dough so that it overhang onto the pan.

12. Place on the bottom rack and bake on 450° for 20 minutes. If you like top with Parmesan cheese or cheese of choice after 15 minutes.

Once it's done…..let it cool for 10-15 minutes.

Slice, serve and ENJOY!!!!
