Introduction: Chicken Shawarma Sandwich

Shawarma is one of the world's most popular street foods, especially in Egypt and the countries of the Levant, the Arabian Peninsula, and beyond.

A Shawarma consists of sliced lamb or chicken, vegetables, and often tahini sauce.

Step 1: Ingredients:

Ingredients for making sandwich:

  • Any kind of bread
  • Tomato (Julienne cut) half cup
  • Cucumber (Julienne cut) 1 cup
  • Cabbage (Julienne cut) 1 cup
  • Onion chopped or sliced half cup
  • Capsicum (Julienne cut) 1 cup
  • Carrot (Julienne cut) 1 cup
  • Cheese

Ingredients for Chicken Marination:

  • Boneless chicken (500 grams)
  • Salt 1 tsp
  • Lemon juice (2 tbs)
  • Yogurt (2 tbs)
  • Tomato paste (1 tbsp)
  • Onion powder (1 tsp)
  • All spice powder (half tsp)
  • Red chili powder (1 & half tsp)
  • Coriander powder (1 tsp)
  • Garlic powder (1 tsp)
  • Pepper (half tsp)
  • Cumin powder (1 tsp)
  • Add some tomatoes and capsicum from the above ingredients.
  • Oil (2 tbsp for frying)

Ingredients for the shawarma sauce:

  • Mint leaves - 8
  • Garlic cloves - 4
  • Lemon juice (1 tbs )
  • Salt ( half tsp )
  • Paprika powder (half tsp )
  • Tahini sauce (2 tbs )
  • Yogurt (1 cup)
  • Mayonnaise ( 2-3 tbsp)

Step 2: Chicken Marination and Frying

In a bowl add salt, lemon juice, yogurt, tomato paste, onion powder, all spice powder, coriander powder, red chili powder, black pepper, cumin powder and garlic powder, mix and marinate the chicken for 10 minutes.

Now, in a frying pan or a saucepan, add 2 tbsp of oil and then add the marinated chicken, capsicum and tomato and fry until cooked.

And then, add it in a large bowl and set aside.

Step 3: Making the Shawarma Sauce

In a blender add mint leaves, garlic cloves, lemon juice, salt, paprika, tahini sauce and yogurt and blend until smooth.

Now, take a separate bowl and add mayonnaise and then add the blended sauce to the mayonnaise and mix it together.

Step 4: Mixing the Chicken and the Vegetables

Now we have our vegetables, fried chicken, shawarma sauce, and a bread or a flatbread (as shown in the above picture).

Next, add all the vegetables in the bowl of fried chicken and mix it well.

Then, microwave it for 1 minute.

Step 5: Making the Sandwich

Spread the shawarma sauce on the bread, then add the chicken-vegetable mixture and add the cheddar cheese slice on top of it and close the bread.

Microwave for 10-15 seconds.

Step 6: Done!
