Do you and your other half ever argue over whether or not the dishwasher is clean or dirty? Well, this Instructable is the solution!

Featured is a reversible clean dirty sign, easy to hang anywhere an argument might take place, for me, on the dishwasher. When the dishwasher is turned on, the sign is flipped to clean, once emptied, flipped back to dirty.

Required:

3D Printer (The idea can be modified to no require a 3D printer)
4 x M2 bolts (not necessary, glue/bluetac or any basic adhesive would work)
Small length of string (Really though, how long is a piece of string?)
An argument that needs to be no longer

Step 1: Step 1: Make Signs

I like the idea of just putting together a quick drawing and hitting print, so I personally decided the 3D print the signs. The .stl files have been attached if you wish to do the same.

There are many alternatives:

Print clean/dirty from a paper printer, then glue it on both sides to a business card or a piece of cardboard, cut to shape.
Buy a small piece of wood (sign sized), write clean/dirty however you wish.

Basically, you can use whatever you like for the sign, no idea is a bad idea (that's a white lie).

For the 3D printed design, I chose to do the clean/dirty signs as two separate parts as I wanted to print them in two different colours and wanted to avoid using supports as I've been having a few issues of late with the current filament I'm using and support structures.

I suggest giving them a light sand, and if you've used ABS, doing a treatment such as cold vaporizing for aesthetic purposes.

I also decided to use a black permanent marker to mark the extruded letters just to making reading it a bit easier.

Step 2: Step 2: Attach Signs to Each Other

I personally am mechanically driven, so I've chosen to bolt the signs together just to add to the appearance. The bolts are M2's with nylock nuts which I picked up on eBay.

Alternatively, superglue or bluetac even would suffice.

When attaching the signs to each other, I looped the string between them, using the two signs as a clamping device.

Step 3: Step 3: Attach to Dishwasher

Again, there are many ways to do this, I had roll of magnetic strip, so I superglued a strip to the back of a 3M easy hook. Yes, I could of used the sticky-hook option, however, doing this means it can be moved, avoiding yet another possible argument ;).

From here, it's rather self explanatory.
