Introduction: Cork Board

Our cork board is a crafty design to place your wine on, use as a heat protection mat, or anything else. This is a very simple and quick craft to make as an accessory to any home.

Step 1: Gather Your Suplies

The materials you will need:

  • Corks (We recommend using different color corks to make a better pattern.)
  • Hot glue gun and sticks
  • Cork mat
  • Ruler
  • Sand paper
  • Device for cutting corks (we used a scroll saw)

Step 2: Cut Your Corks

The first thing you need to do is cut your corks. For this design we chose to cut them in half, but for a smaller coaster you may want to cut them in quarters.

Step 3: Sand the Corks

Some of the corks may have ruff edges or be uneven. To fix this use a heavy grit sand paper to sand them down or to make them even.

Step 4: Start Gluing Your Four Sets

Begin gluing your corks in sets of four.

Step 5: Glue Your Sets of Four Together

After you have glued your sets of four, begin gluing the sets of four together. For our pattern we did a three color pattern.

Step 6: Measure and Cut Your Cork Mat

After your cork board is your desired size you will need to measure and cut out your cork mat to glue to the bottom of the board to hold it together. Using a ruler measure out the piece you need, cut it out, and then glue it to the bottom of the board. We recommend cutting it small enough to no show on the edges.

Step 7: Sand the Top

If the top of your board is not even just sand the top until its even.

Step 8: Your Cork Board Is Finished

Your cork board is now finished. Enjoy as a wine place mat, pot place mat to protect your table, or just about anything else.

Please take note you do not have to follow our design. You can get crafty and design your own.

Step 9: Check Out Our Pictures for Other Designs Such As Smaller Coasters.

The only difference is we cut the corks into quarters.
