Step 2: Wash and Dice Potatoes
First let's wash, peel, and dice our potatoes. I am using Yukon Gold potatoes, they make a really nice and creamy mashed potato. Others will work fine too.
Step 3: Cover With Cold Water
Next let's pour them into a large pot and cover them with cold water, about an inch higher then the potatoes. Now add your 1 tsp. of salt.
Step 4: Cook the Potatoes
Now let's cook those potatoes. Turn the stovetop on high and bring the water to a boil. Then turn the stovetop to low and cover the pot, and let the potatoes simmer for 15 to 20 minutes until a fork goes in really easy when poking a potato piece.
Step 5: Drain
Now let's drain the potatoes.
Step 6: Heat Butter and Cream
Next let's heat up our cream and butter until the butter is melted, I just use a microwave and start with 25 to 30 seconds stir, then repeat until melted. I am using homemade butter but you can use whatever butter you like. Check out my instructable on homemade butter as well! https://www.instructables.com/id/Easy-Homemade-Butt...
Step 7: Mash Add Cream, Mash
Now let's start mashing our potatoes with a potato masher or large fork. Then add our cream and melted butter mixture. Then mash some more.
Step 8: Add Milk and Stir
Next we add our milk a little bit at a time, about a tablespoon at a time, stirring in between with a wooden spoon. You don't have to use the milk if you don't want to, but it helps to make it that much creamier.
Step 9: Season and Stir
Now just season with salt and pepper and stir to mix it all in. I prefer not to over season, so I am not very heavy with the salt and pepper. I like the people I am serving to be able to season it to their particular tastes. Now you are done! Enjoy!
