Introduction: Creamy White Wine Crock Pot Chicken
This is a pretty popular recipe with a few variations. It has been around my family for quite awhile now, but I am happy to share! This is a typical crock pot / slow-cooker meal that you can prepare in as little as 4 hours or prepare before work and have for dinner ready when you get home. DISCLAIMER: You'd probably want to boil the rice or noodles after you got home. Pretty sure it is not wise to do otherwise. Plate this with a good vegetable side, and you have a family-favorite meal. These directions are the more hands-on approach, not the set-and-forget method.
Step 1: Preparation: Ingredients / Directions
Soooo without further ado; the INGREDIENTS
4-6 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (cut like tenders)
1 packet dry Italian dressing mix
1 tsp garlic salt
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp fresh ground black pepper
1 tsp onion powder
1 (10 ounce) can cream of mushroom
1 (8 ounce) block of cream cheese
1.5 cups of White wine (preference on type is yours)
- 1/2 Cup goes in cooker and 1 Cup in sauce
Egg Noodles or Rice, to serve with (amount is your choice)
Step 2: BEGIN!
Take your thawed breasts and place them on a surface to be seasoned with the garlic powder, garlic salt, fresh ground black pepper and onion powder.
Ensure you season both sides of the chicken breasts with all of the spices shown and listed. A teaspoon of each is about right for most preferences, but please feel free to add or subtract at this stage.
Be careful not to over-season.
Step 3: Add to Crockpot / Slow Cooker
Spray crock pot / slow-cooker with non-stick spray. Place the seasoned chicken breasts in crock pot then pour your 1/2 cup of white wine for them to bathe in.
The seasoned chicken is going to begin cooking for 2 hours on HIGH setting.
Use this time to prepare your sauce mixture.
Step 4: Sauce
Once your chicken has cooked for two hours on HIGH, it should look similar to the first picture.
IMPORTANT! You will need to microwave these ingredients in the bowl to get them soft enough to actually mix.
It is now time (especially if you procrastinated like me) to mix together the Italian dressing, the cream of mushroom, and the cream cheese in a medium bowl.
Once these ingredients are mixed pretty well, you'll notice it is nice and thick. This is where the remainder of your white wine is mixed in to thin the mixture a bit.
Step 5: Combine the Parts
So you've managed to have a few glasses of wine in the two hour intermission, and you've gotten the sauces all mixed together. I am impressed!
Transfer and combine your sauce into the crock pot / slow-cooker, ensuring that the chicken is mostly covered.
Place the cooker on the LOW setting now, and wait your next two hours with a movie and more wine.
Step 6: DING! DINNER IS DONE!
The second 2 hrs are completed now, and your meal should look similar to picture one.
Give the meal a stir and ensure that the chicken is coated in its sauce.
Remember that disclaimer from the first step? The one about making your rice or noodles? Now would be the time that your rice or noodles should be finishing so you can plate this mouth-watering savory dish.
I like to use the egg noodles, so pictured is an example of what your dinner could look like.
