Introduction: Crispy Fried Tofu
Tofu is one of my favorite ingredients - it's cheap, versatile, nutritious, and easy to cook . This recipe is a simple tofu recipe I make when I'm low on both time and ingredients. It's a great way to turn tofu, which is normally soft and mushy on the outside, into crispy slices. And it only takes about 15 minutes for a full plate!
Step 1: Ingredients
Ingredients
- 1 block firm tofu
- 1 tbsp salt
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 2-3 tbsp oyster sauce
- 3 tbsp cooking oil
Tools
- 1 cutting board
- 1 knife
- 1 pan
- some paper towels
Step 2: Slice and Dry Tofu
Drain water out of the tofu package, and slice the tofu into approximately 0.5cm thick slices. Lay your slices out on a sheet of paper towel, and use a second paper towel to pat dry excess water in the tofu.
Be careful! Depending on the type of tofu, it can easily start to break apart into smaller chunks.
Step 3: Fry
Heat a pan on medium-high heat with the cooking oil. When the pan has heated up, gently place the tofu slices into the pan.
After about 2 minutes, flip the tofu to cook the other side.
Step 4: Season
Tofu by itself is fairly flavorless - it tends to take on the flavor of whatever it is seasoned with. I like the season my tofu with about 1 teaspoon of salt and sugar each, and 2-3 tablespoons of oyster sauce (which also gives the tofu a nice brown color).
To serve, dip the tofu slices in some ketchup or Sriracha and enjoy!
