Hello Everybody,

In this instructables I'm gonna explain simple yet yummy, all time favourite appetizer for any age - Oooonion rings. Usually they are deep fried in oil, in order to avoid consuming extra oil and to have a taste twist. i have baked these in oven. Hope you enjoy doing it !!!

Step 1: Ingredients

Main ingredient

Large Onion - 2 nos

Dry mixture

Bread crumbs - 1 Cup (5 medium sized bread slice )

Chilli powder - 1/2 tsp

Turmeric - 1/2 tsp

Salt - 1/4 tsp

Wet mixture

Gram flour - 1/2 cup ( You can also use all-purpose flour)

Corn flour - 1 Tbsp

Milk - 1/3 Cup

Chilli powder - 1/2 tsp

Turmeric - 1/4 tsp

Salt - 1/2 tsp

Sesame oil - 1/4 tsp

Step 2: Formation of O-Rings

Peel the skin of onion, chop off the head and bottom tail. Slice the onion horizontally, thickness about 50 mm. you might end up with 4 to 5 slices.

Each slice will contribute 4 rings.

Apply little force at the center and remove the middle portion of the onion. Slowly push from backside and separate the o-ring from one another

Step 3: Follow the Above

Like wise chop off the other layers and obtain the o-rings for both the onions

Step 4: Bread Crumbs

In order to make 1 cup bread crumbs, i used 5 slices of bread - medium sized.

Add them in your blender, give it a Grrrrrrghhhhhh... They you go, bread crumbs are ready within seconds

Step 5: Add-ins for Dry Mixture

Take the bread crumbs in a bowl, add in salt, chilli powder and turmeric powder. Mix it

Step 6: Coating Batter

Main ingredient for this i have choosen gram flour, it can be substituted with chick pea flour, all purpose flour. reason for selecting gram flour is because it adds crispiness. Sift the flour on the bowl, don't sift on the slab like me oopsies.

Adding cornflour makes sure dry coating sticks on to the O-Ring

Add chilli powder, salt & milk

Step 7: Wet Mixture Ready

As finishing touch, add 1/4 tsp of oil any cooking oil will do.

Mix them well, Batter should be in flowing consistency. Neither thick nor thin

Step 8: Wet & Dry Together

Keep side by side both mixtures, take a O-ring coat it with batter and let it roll in bread crumbs land give it a good over coating

Step 9: Bake Plate

Cut the parchment paper, grease it with oil on top little at the bottom so that paper doesn't move

Step 10: Dip & Roll & Place

Now place your over coated O-ring on the bake plate. Since these are hollow rings, i placed the small O-ring within the bigger ones (without touching). This is not mandatory.. i jus did it to save up space

Step 11: It's Baking Time

I have used halogen oven, so i don't have to preheat. Bake them at 400 F for 15 mins. By doing this way we save lot of oil.. Healthy choice, yet no comprise on the taste

Step 12: Ting !! O-rings Are Ready

After 15 mins, crispy oven baked onion rings are ready. How easy was that !! when tasted, there was no raw onion smell.. perfect crust on the outside with good roasted onion smell WITHOUT OIL. Fat free O-rings tasting delicious.

Step 13: Its Crunching Time

Enjoy your days by making this appetizer.

Thank you for coming this far, hope you liked it and curious to try it.

Please let me know how its working out for you

Ciao !!!
