Introduction: DIY Barbecue Concessions Trailer

About: Hey there, I'm Zack, and I call Central West Virginia home. In my downtime, you'll find me doing what I love the most – running my BBQ business, Z-Mans Barbecue LLC, to serve the public. It's my way of sharing…

I desired to join the food trailer craze, but purchasing a pre-made one proved too costly. Instead, I opted to construct my own using an old recycled equipment trailer, aiming to be unique and cater to my barbecue requirements. This project exceeded my DIY skills, but fortunately, I was fortunate to have an incredible community and supportive friends who guided me through the process!Being aware of my aspiration to create a larger and improved BBQ setup, my good friend surprised me one day by gifting me the old equipment trailer, which serves as the foundation for my entire new operation.

Supplies

We utilized diverse building materials, including 2x4 lumber, windows, a home door, metal roofing, TI-11, and a variety of common building materials readily available at your local Lowe's or Home Depot. Employed fundamental tools such as circular saws, miter saws, oscillating tools, drills, and additional equipment.

Step 1: Trailer Fabrication

Initially, I required the trailer to be converted to a standard ball hitch, with the addition of multiple jacks and the construction of custom box fenders that would serve as our building foundation. Engaging my community proved beneficial, and the local high school welding class played a pivotal role in assisting with this particular phase.

Step 2: Fabrication Complete

After the high school welding class performed admirably in the meticulous work and fabrication, I proceeded to have the trailer sandblasted and painted.

Step 3: Sandblasting and Paint

On completion of the sandblasting and painting process by a local professional, we retrieved the finished trailer and then proceeded to Lowes to acquire the necessary building supplies.

Step 4: Building Supplies Obtained and Floor Built

After obtaining all the required supplies, we returned to the house with the trailer and reconvened with supportive community members and friends eager to assist in the project. Without their help, it wouldn't have been feasible. Despite their full-time commitments, they dedicated their free time, and in just one day, they successfully fabricated the floor.

Step 5: Framework

The following day, they erected the entire framework, roughed in the window and door, and the project truly began to take form, turning a dream into reality.

Step 6: Boxed In

After finishing the framework, my friends stained the T1-11 panels in a pleasing gray shade and enclosed the trailer.

Step 7: Project Complete

Following the completion of framing and enclosing the trailer, they adorned it with an impressive brown-stained lumber trim and added a sleek black metal roof. Modern lights were installed on each side, bringing my dream to life. This achievement wouldn't have been possible without the significant support from friends, family, and the community. Now, I utilize the trailer to serve fantastic barbecue to the community, pursuing my passion during my free time. It's truly remarkable how wonderful friends and community members I have.

Step 8: Shoutout

A heartfelt thank you to my incredible friends, Paul and Terri, Keith, Dillon, Wayne, and Jacob, along with my cousin Mike and the High School Welding class. Your dedication and hard work made the construction of my barbecue dream a reality. I am truly grateful for your invaluable contributions, and Z-Mans Barbecue LLC wouldn't be what it is today without each of you.

A special shout-out to all my other friends and family for the unwavering love and ongoing support of Z-Mans Barbecue LLC. Your encouragement fuels my passion, and I am blessed to have such an amazing network of people around me. Here's to many more barbecue-filled adventures together!
