Valentine's Day may be over but why not pamper yourself with some yummy bath bombs?

Don’t you just love a nice, long soak in a hot bathtub at the end of a stressful day? Boy, I sure do! Give me a good book and a glass of wine and that’s where you’ll find me on any given evening. What’s even better is a hot bath with yummy, scented bath bombs! Unfortunately, luxurious bath bombs (also called bath fizzies) can be pretty pricey, can’t they? And they’re not something we usually buy for ourselves, either, are they? So how about making your own DIY Bath Bombs?

Step 1: Supplies:

– 1 cup Baking Soda

– 1/2 cup Citric Acid

– 1/2 cup Corn Starch

– 1/2 cup Epsom Salts

– 1 tsp oil s.a. Almond Oil or Olive Oil

– 1 tsp Essential Oil (I combined Peppermint & Lemon)

– Soap Dye or Food Color

– 1 tsp Water

– Dust mask (it’s probably not toxic but why risk it?)

– Mold of some sort

– Bowls

– Measuring cups & spoons

– Spoon or whisk

Step 2: Mix It Up:

Put on your dust mask and then in a medium bowl, combine the baking soda, citric acid, corn starch and epsom salts. In a separate small bowl, whisk together oil, essential oil and water. Gotta be fast here…. add the liquid to the dry ingredients and whisk together very quickly.

Now you want to add some color – just a 5 or 6 drops at a time. Drip the color on your bath bomb mixture and stir it in. Feel free to experiment with color combinations, you know: yellow & blue makes green, etc. At this point, I like to start combining the ingredients with my hands – just knead everything together until it starts to clump. If it’s too dry, add more water in very small increments i.e. 1/2 tsp at a time. This is also when you add more color if needed. You can use gloves, if you want.

Once the bath bomb mixture is well blended and holding together, fill the molds and press it down firmly. You want nicely compacted bath bombs that don’t fall apart.
Let everything dry for 24 hours and then you can pop your bath bombs out of the molds.
