DIY Brick Charcoal Grill

This is my first Instructable, and I hope it goes well.

I am a senior at the Berks Career and Technology Center in Pennsylvania. My class is Drafting & Design, and I have been doing Mechanical drafting in here for three years now. I am due to graduate this year.

My Instructable, as the name suggests, is a charcoal grill for your back yard. I enjoy grilling in my back yard, but only have a propane grill, and have been begging for a charcoal grill. My parents say that if I can make a good enough design, I could make one myself over buying a prebuilt grill.

Requirements:
28" x 28" x 2 1/2" cement slab (bought or cast yourself)
40 standard red bricks (My model uses 8" x 4" x 2 1/2" bricks, as is standard)
Grate of your choosing (In my model, I use a 24" camping grate, as I find they are the most used and cheapest)
Cement (I estimate 3 lbs should be enough for the bricklaying)

Steps:

1.) You need to find a good place to have your grill be at. I suggest on the center of your back porch or in a center part of your lawn, a good distance from your house. The end grill will result in being about 29" x 29".

2.) Carefully place your slab in your suggested place. This would include cleaning and maybe having a small tarp put down underneath, but it is not required.

3.) Start making your cement mixture. Place the bricks on the slab, but have them hang off 1/2" to 3/4" of the slab. In my model, the bricks are 1/5" apart from each other for the cement.

4.) Repeat step 3 until three layers of brick is amassed.

5.) Get the four remaining bricks, and decide where to put them in the center of the grill. They act as pillars holding up your grate. In my model, they are placed in the corners for the 24" diameter grate. It is different for you if you choose a different grate to use.

6.) Put the grate on the brick pillars, and enjoy your new charcoal grill.

I hope this helps at least someone, and I hope it was a decent first Instructable. I hope to add other Instructables this summer of my creations for my yard.
