About: Hey y'all! My name is Lydia and I want to share my passion for cooking/baking with everyone!

Want to learn how to make cake pops at home that are easy and that taste like Starbucks Birthday Cake Pops? Well I have the perfect recipe for these cake pops. They are perfect for any type of party (especially birthday parties) and did I mention that you can make a bunch of these for less than the price of Starbucks (not that anything is wrong with Starbucks). You can also use the same methods that I am showing you and apply it to any flavor of cake pops. So if you want to make your own Starbucks Birthday Cake Pops, then follow the step by step guide below or watch the video tutorial here:

Supplies

Step 1: Ingredients

For the Cake

  • 1 box Pillsbury Classic White Cake Mix
  • 2 tablespoons Pillsbury Creamy Supreme Vanilla Frosting

The Candy Coating

  • 1 12-ounce bag of Pink Wilton Candy Melts (I bought mine from Walmart)
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons Coconut Oil
  • White Sprinkles (I bought mine from Walmart)

Extra Items Needed

  • Cake Pop Sticks (I bought mine from Hobby Lobby)
  • 1 ½ Tablespoon Ice Cream Scoop
  • Styrofoam (I bought mine from Hobby Lobby)

Step 2: Prepare and Bake Cake

Prepare and bake the cake according to the package instructions and let it cool down to room temperature (I covered mine with plastic wrap and allowed to cool in the refrigerate overnight).

Step 3: Cut Edges and Add Crumble

Cut out the edges and remove the cake from the baking dish and add to a large mixing bowl. Crumble the cake with your hands.

Step 4: Add Frosting

Add 2 tbsp of frosting to the crumbled cake and mix with a spoon or your hands until everything is incorporated.

Step 5: Scoop and Roll Cake Balls

Scoop cake with ice cream scoop and press cake into hand and then roll the cake ball with the palm of your hands to smooth any imperfections. Place formed balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Step 6: Melt 1/4 Cup of Candy Melts

In a heat safe bowl, melt about 1/4 cup of candy melts in a microwave. Heat in 30 second intervals to avoid overheating the candy (you can also do this with a double boiler as I have in here and in the video).

Step 7: Dip Sticks

Dip the tip of each cake pop stick into the melted candy and poke it into to ball about halfway through. Place each cake pop onto a baking sheet and transfer to the freezer for about 20 minutes.

Step 8: Melt the Rest of Candy Melts

At the 15 minute mark of the cake pops bing in the freezer, melt the rest of the candy in a bowl. Make sure you melt them in 30 second intervals with mixing in between (again you can use the double boiler method if you don’t own a microwave). Add the coconut oil to the melts and mix well. Add melted candy into a tall cup.

Step 9: Dip Cake Pops

Once the cake pops have been in the freezer for 20 min, dip each into the cup and tilt to the sides slowly to make sure the entire cake pop is covered. Then slowly pull up the cake pop, do not swirl (they will come off), hold the cake pop in one hand and tap your wrist so that all the extra melted candy drips off.

Step 10: Add Sprinkles

Sprinkle the cake pop right away so that the sprinkles stick to it before the candy hardens and place the stick part inside the styrofoam and allow the candy to harden.

Step 11: Enjoy!

Enjoy these delightful little treats with your loved ones!
