Introduction: DIY Rainbow Perler Beads Key Holder

About: I am a full-time craft blogger who blogs all things creative to satisfy your creative cravings.

I got a big box of colorful perler beads to make "JOY" garland and finally ended up using only christmas colors. I have a lot of perler beads now that I wanted to turn them into something useful. When I was brainstorming ideas, I went through perler beads projects over the internet to find that there are not a lot of projects that are utility based rather they were more of a decor item projects using these beads. So I came up with the idea of making a key holder using perler beads.I made this inspired by a full rainbow( Is it even a thing?? Google it !!) for the rainbow contest.

Step 1: Materials Required :

  • Perler beads in rainbow colors & white
  • Peg board in circle
  • Iron
  • Parchment paper
  • Cup hooks
  • Any piece of thread or cord to create a hanger

Step 2:

Stack the beads in circular pegboard in rainbow colors- Red,Orange,Yellow,Green,Blue,Indigo and Violet.

Step 3:

Fill the center in color of your choice. I actually ran out of light blue so I opted for white but if you have a color choice go for any light color in the middle so the your rainbow colors pop.

Step 4:

Once it is all done, use a parchment paper above the pegboard and iron the beads to melt and form a disc.Repeat the same on the other side. To create a handle, you can arrange the beads in a small curve and iron it to melt with the base or you can string a cord in any of the hole and tie it to form a loop to hang it on a nail.I did not like the look of beads handle so I chose the second one.

Step 5:

Screw the cup hooks wherever desired on the perler bead disc.It will snuggly fit and you need not worry about them falling off.It is difficult to explain this process in words so you will understand once you try it for yourself.

If you have a bigger cup hooks like mine then go ahead and add a normal perler bead at the back so that it won't scratch the wall. I am using the cup hooks which I had already in my craft stash but if you are buying a new set of hooks make sure you are getting the ones with smaller screw. That's it. How easy was that ?

Step 6:

I also made a similar one with square pegboard and added some cool patterns. I also added a handle to look like a lock with circular pegboard and hot glued it. If you want step by step pictures on how I made this pattern, you can click here. These beads are so versatile that you can create any number unique patterns with them.Give them a try and I'm sure you will love it and start making many of them to give as gifts for your friends.

Hope you like this simple yet easy idea of making something cool for your home or room with beads. If you like it, Please vote for me in "Rainbow contest". Thank you :)
