Step 1: Material List

Step 2: Cutting Layout

Use the rendering below to cut all your pieces out and refer back to this page when selecting parts for assembly. The top label is the part name and the bottom label is the material.

We decided to use a pre-made round top from Home Depot and it is linked in the material list. If you want to make your own, make sure it is 24” round and 1 1/8” thick. If you want to make it thicker or thinner, then you will need to adjust the cross members up or down.

Step 3: Cutting Notch

Use the rendering below to cut all your pieces out and refer back to this page when selecting parts for assembly.

Cut a notch in all four cross member pieces. This notch will create a half lap joint during assembly. The notch should be centered on the board and measure 3/4” wide and 1 1/4”

Step 4: Pocket Hole Laypout

Pay close attention to the orientation of the pocket holes and the notches.Two crossmembers will have pocket holes facing up that will be used to attach the top in a later step. Because of how the boards will be put together you need to make sure the pocket holes facing up are in opposite directions. View the rendering below for clarification.

Step 5: Assembly

First, we will assemble one side fully and then work on the second separately. The crossmembers need to be centered on the legs and need to be 1 1/8” down from the end of the board. This is a tricky step and I recommend watching the YouTube Video again for help.

Assemble the second side the same way as the first, but don’t attach the bottom crossmember yet. If you do, you will not be able to slide the two together. Slide the two sides together before continuing.

Now that the two are slid together, you can add the bottom crossmember. Slide the bottom cross member in place and screw it into the legs.

Use the pocket holes we created earlier to attach the top and assembly is done!

Step 6: Finishing

All that is left is applying your finish of choice!! We chose to use a natural wax finish to keep the dull organic feel of the wood, but you can use anything you want. For a really durable finish that will not make the wood yellow, I would use a lacquer. You can get lacquer in a can or spray it, but be sure to use a mask!
