Introduction: Decorative Crochet Headphones Cover

Tired of boring headphones that totally don't match your aesthetic? Have some basic knitting/crocheting skills? Transform your headphones into the accessory of your dreams by adding any small details to these basic instructions for your headphone cover!

Use the same color for the entire project or use different colors for each part like this example. This tutorial assumes some basic knowledge of knitting and crocheting, and if you can do one of those and not the other feel free to either knit or crochet the entire project! This example uses both methods for different pieces of the project.

Supplies

You'll need

  • Yarn! Can be any color(s) you want and any thickness, but thinner yarn means more rows when crafting
  • Scissors
  • Knitting needles and/or a crochet hook (make sure you have larger ones for thick yarn or smaller ones for thin yarn)
  • A bobby pin or safety pin

Step 1: Crochet a Circle

  1. Start by creating a slip knot on your crochet hook
  2. Chain 3 times
  3. Begin working in a spiral pattern as you crochet new rows instead of adding straight chains
  4. Work in a spiral until you have a circle that is slightly larger than the size of the earpiece of your headphones
  5. Cast off by tying the end of the yarn in a knot around the last crocheted loop

Step 2: Repeat Step 1 to Create a Second Circle

Remember to continue to compare your circle to the side of the earpiece of your headphones to get an ideal size.

Step 3: Knit a Strip

  1. Begin by creating a slip knot with the yarn on one knitting needle
  2. Cast on slightly wider than the width of the band on your headphones (This will vary based on band size and yarn size, this example is 4 wide)
  3. Use a basic knit stitch to create rows until the strip is as long as the band on your headphones (The short ends of the strip should be able to touch the tops of both earpieces)
  4. Cast off the needle to create a clean edge

Step 4: Thread Your Bobby Pin or Safety Pin

Treat the bobby pin like a sewing needle and the yarn like thread. Push the yarn through the closed end of the bobby pin like its the eye of a needle.

Step 5: Attach Circles to Short Ends of Strip

Using the bobby pin with yarn like a needle and thread, sew one crocheted circle to each short end of the knitted strip so that you end up with a strip with a circle on each end. Once attached, cut the yarn and tie a knot on each end to secure.

Step 6: Thread Yarn Around Perimeter

Once again using the bobby pin and yarn as a needle and thread, weave the yarn in and out through the entire perimeter of the project. You can use matching yarn for each piece or a contrasting color to create a design, but remember to leave two pieces of at least 2 inches of yarn exposed and not woven into the piece on each end, this is how we will tighten the edges to fit onto the headphones.

Step 7: Fit Onto Headphones and Tighten

  1. Place the project over your headphones (If you measured correctly before, the knitted strip should be slightly wider than the band and the circles should be slightly larger than the outside shell of the earpieces)
  2. Pull the exposed threads from Step 6 to tighten the edges of the piece until they slightly curve around the edges of the headphones
