So I'm seeing a trend in pedestals. Everything looks better on a pedestal! And at the Dollar Tree the other day I was looking at the glass hurricane lamps and candlesticks for a possible centerpiece for a friend's shower when I go a great idea! Two great things that would look great together!

I guess this idea is not new, but I didn't know that until after I had my own brain blast. Also, I haven't seen anyone use these in groups at varying heights.

And I could not find an instructable for it, so here it is! Maybe it will be new for you too!

I am going to upload this to my blog {Clickable Party} as part of my "Wednesday's Party Tips".

Step 1: Supplies!

This is what you will need to make these neat things!

2 Hurricane Jars from the Dollar Tree ($2)
3 Glass taper candle holders from the dollar tree ($3)
Glass Glue (or hot glue gun & glue)
1 Marker (on hand)
Dremmel (optional)
Rubbing Alchohol (on hand)

Step 2: Remove Tags

Start by removing all the price tags and residue from the price tags with your rubbing alchohol.

Step 3: Roughen Surface (optional)

Roughen the top of the taper candle holder with a Dremmel, and clean it with the rubbing alcohol.

{*Note: Now that I know that I am way behind the times with this, I have come across some other folks who have been successful using hot glue and gorilla glue without roughening the glass. My husband recommended it, and I thought, "better safe than sorry!"}

Step 4: Find the Center

Using a straight edge and a marker you can approximate the center of the hurricane by drawing a line vertically and horizontally.

Do this on the bottom of the hurricane and on the top of the candlestick holder.

Align the marks to find the approximate center of the hurricane.

Draw a circle with the marker around the outside of the candlestick holder on the bottom of the hurricane.

You will use this circle as a guide to where to roughen the bottom of the hurricane.

Use rubbing alcohol to remove the marks from the candlestick holder.

Step 5: Roughen Hurricane and Attach Candlestick Holder

Using the circle you drew as your guide, roughen the inside of the circle with the Dremmel.

[if you chose to use hot glue instead, just put the glue on the inside of the circle and clean up the marks outside before adding candlestick holder.]

When finished, remove the marks with rubbing alcohol.

Apply glass glue to the roughened surface of the hurricane, and attach candlestick holder.

Clean up excess with rubbing alcohol.

Leave inverted in a safe place for 24 hours.

Step 6: For Taller Footed Hurricane...

Follow steps 1-3.

On a second candlestick holder, roughen both top and bottom.

Roughen outside circle of the hurricane. You won't need to find the center on this one.

Apply glue and invert one candlestick holder on top of the other.

Step 7: Add Hurricane

Apply glue to roughened surface and carefully attach candlestick holders to bottom of hurricane.

Step 8: Voila!

After 24 hours of drying time, you can add whatever you wish to the inside of the hurricanes. We've added dried leaves and battery operated tea-light candles. I added these to a grouping in my dining area.

We will be making lots of these to use in a baby shower and fill them with glass beads and floating candles.

Almost as nice as William Sonomoa's and actually, way better, cuz for the two of these it cost me $5.
