Introduction: Double Dog (sausage Stuffed Bread)

"Yo, yo, listen up! Double Dog Doug be in da house! Ya haa, ya haa.....eeeee up!"

Ok, while we all agree Double Dog Doug is a great name for a rapper, today we're talking food not lyrics. And besides, Doug is a full H short of dough.

We've made this really delicious sausage bread using sourdough and spicy sausages. And we've called it the Double Dog.

Ok, let's get goin', yo.

Step 1: Ingredients

  • 135g flour
  • 30g Sourdough Starter
  • 125g water
  • 2 tbsp dijon mustard
  • 50g butter
  • 1/3 tsp baking soda
  • 2 tsp red wine vinegar
  • 4 tasty sausages (we've used kranksky-style spicy sausages)
  • 1/4 C grated cheese

Mix the flour, sourdough starter, water and dijon mustard together. Leave this batter overnight for the sourdough to mix through.

Step 2: Now Mix It...freestyle!

Melt the butter, add the baking soda then mix this into the batter.

Step 3: Now Add the Red Wine Vinegar

Mix in the red wine vinegar.

Step 4: Dump and Bake...thump and Shake!

Pour the dough into a loaf or bread tin, then press in the sausages until they are just below the surface of the dough.

Place in the over at 180C (360F) for 40 minutes.

Step 5: Great Is Thy Cheese

Remove the double dog from the oven and sprinkle on grated cheese. Return to the oven for another 10 minutes until cheese is golden brown. After this remove from oven and allow to cool.

Step 6: Definitely Double Down Your Delicious Dog, Dude

Double dog...done!

Serve on it's own, as party food for a kids party or as part of a lunch with a side of Baked potato chips. We enjoyed it with chili sauce.

Let me know how you enjoy yours.

Thanks for looking.
